Aug. 29: Cartwrights at Courthouse
The music-comedy duo the Cartwright Brothers will perform from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the Old Courthouse Museum. You can bring your lunch and enjoy the show. Admission is free. The concert is held in the plaza behind the museum unless it rains.

Aug. 29: Audition mixer
The Premiere Playhouse is kicking off audition weekend with a mixer from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Rock Island Studio, 300 N. Phillips Ave. You can socialize, learn more about the upcoming season and get comfortable with the people who could be your fellow cast members and the directors. It is open to everyone. Auditions will be Saturday and Sunday.

Aug. 30: Plant sale
Shop fall mums, annuals and perennials at the eighth annual Kiwanis Club of Sioux Falls’ plant sale. It will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Natural Beauty greenhouse, 46844 264th Ave., to the northwest of 12th Street and Ellis Road. You’ll also be able to tour the 20-acre Natural Beauty greenhouse, the largest greenhouse in the state. Wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes, and bring water. All proceeds benefit the Sioux Falls Kiwanis Club and local community programs.

Aug. 30: Retro skate party
Take a spin down memory lane from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Jacobson Plaza in downtown Sioux Falls with this celebration of the best decades of roller skating for all ages.

From the groovy ’70s, to the totally tubular ’80s, to the funky ’90s and beyond, the music will be cranked, and skaters of all abilities are welcome. Come dressed in retro gear, and get ready for skating games, throwback tunes and a photo booth.
Aug. 31: LifeLight Festival
The LifeLight Festival will return from noon to 9:30 p.m. Sunday at Nelson Park. Headliners include We the People, Anne Wilson and Josh Brewer. If you park downtown, you are encouraged to use the 10th and 11th street viaducts to the festival grounds. Parking and shuttle service will be available at Lincoln High School beginning at 11 a.m. and will run through the festival. You’ll find a complete schedule of events here.

Sept. 3: Kids’ cross country
A three-race cross-country series for kids in kindergarten through sixth grade will introduce them to the sport, beginning at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and continuing Sept. 10 and 17. Registration will begin at 4 p.m. at the picnic shelter at Morningside Park, 33rd Street and Bahnson Avenue. First grade and younger will run a quarter-mile, second and third grades run a half-mile and older kids run 1 mile. Sponsors are Sioux Falls Area Running Club, 605 Running Co. and Sioux Falls Parks & Recreation.

Sept. 3: Dog swim

No registration is necessary, but all dogs must have updated vaccinations and follow off-leash rules. It runs from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Laurel Oak Family Aquatic Center, 3401 E. 49th St.
