Aug. 11: Hydrant Party
West-siders, this one is for you. It looks like an ideal forecast for a fire hydrant party! This one runs from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday at Jefferson Park at 2301 W. 39th St. Hosted by Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, Sioux Falls Police, Siouxland Libraries and Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation, you’ll find water sprays, music, games and books to read. No registration required.

Aug. 12: Art & Beauty of Vinyl
Celebrate National Vinyl Record Day with Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation. You’ll be utilizing vinyls in more ways than one: while listening to some classic records on vinyl, you’ll also create a dream catcher made from old records. This class is intended for those 18 and older, and will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at the MariCar Community Center. Registration for the class, which includes materials for the project, will cost $8 and can be completed here.
Aug. 13: Enlightenment Machine at Ipso Gallery
Ipso Gallery at Fresh Produce will be hosting an opening reception Saturday for its next show, Enlightenment Machine. The show, which is described as an interactive art display with art that is not just visual but also touch-friendly is about “tapping into secret places and making surprising connections that lead to delight” and features work from Cody Henrichs, Josh Johnson and more. The reception will take place from 6 to 8 p.m., and Enlightenment Machine will be on display at Ipso Gallery through Sept. 23.

Aug. 13: Bugapalooza
Head to the Butterfly House & Aquarium for the inaugural Bugapalooza event. You’ll learn everything there is to know about bugs, as well as participate in crafts and activities. A chance to interact with different types of bugs also will take place at the event. Also on-site will be the Squatch Wagon food truck serving up Indian tacos and more. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the lawn next to the Butterfly House at Sertoma Park and is free to the public.

And you’ve got one more weekend to check out the Sioux Empire Fair. Here’s a look at what’s new:
