School news you’ll love: Going ‘bananas,’ themed weeks and shout-outs

Now that’s how you celebrate National Banana Day. Several teachers at John Harris Elementary wore costumes as the celebrate fruit to deliver bananas to the students. Thanks to the east-side Fareway for donating them!

Big congrats to Scott Sorenson at New Tech High School, selected as South Dakota’s 2021 James Madison Fellow. Each year, the fellowship picks up to one social studies teacher from each state to learn more about the U.S. Constitution. The fellowship then pays for the fellow to pursue a master’s degree.

The recent kindergarten registration took on a pirate theme as the kids were greeted. Here’s a look from JFK Elementary, Hawthorne Elementary and Terry Redlin Elementary!

Lots of businesses partnered in to help bring Harrisburg High School students a career exploration event for the state’s “week of work.”

Sioux Falls Christian second graders enjoyed cowboy/girl day this week.

Shout-out to all the administrative professionals recognized last week. They celebrated with decor and goodies at Oscar Howe Elementary.

And an even bigger shout-out to Betel, a student at Lowell Elementary, for stepping up and asking her class to be respectful toward a substitute teacher. It earned her some well-deserved recognition — and we thought you’d enjoy her face mask too!
