School news of the week: Snowy returns, heartwarming holiday moment

It took a bit to get there, but students are back from break! They celebrated outside at St. Michael Elementary.

Of course, even getting into school was a challenge. Here’s a look at the drifts outside Rosa Parks Elementary.

And here’s how excited they were to be back at Lowell Elementary:

No learning loss here! Sioux Falls Lutheran School created an “escape room” challenge to test students’ reading from over holiday break. All escaped!

The holidays might be over, but here’s one last heartwarming story, courtesy of Joe Foss at Axtell Park student Quashanti Luby Roy. Inspired by the beauty of Falls Park Winter Wonderland, she wanted to say thank you to the team at Sioux Falls Parks & Recreation. So, just before Christmas, thanks to the generosity of Falls Overlook Cafe and help from Joe Foss counselor Janell Mills and Parks & Recreation director Don Kearney, it all came together. Students attending and representing Joe Foss and Axtell Park who demonstrated good work ethic, conduct and attendance said thanks over hot chocolate and donated holiday treats. Plus, Sioux Falls Mayor Paul TenHaken capped it off by presenting the Sioux Falls Challenge Coin to Roy and Mills.
