Amazing things happen in our schools every day — if you know where to look! Do you know some school news others would love? Let us know at [email protected].

Proof teachers make a lasting impact, even after they’re gone. Laura B. Anderson Elementary honored long-time teacher Mrs. Thompson’s birthday this week. “Although she is not with us anymore, her legacy of kindness and love of books lives on at LBA!” the school wrote.

Each grade level chose a new book to read as a class. Some did activities to go along with the book or took the class outside to read. There’s also a basket of books outside the office in her memory, and staff wore shirts to honor her.

St. Katharine Drexel Elementary has introduced the Kindness Crew to the school. It’s a year-round leadership program that started with the idea of challenging elementary school students to document 5,000 acts of kindness in just two weeks, creating a ripple effect to make the world a better place. St. Katharine Drexel is working on a Kindness Gold Tickets program, where crew members will hide golden tickets around the school for students to find. When a ticket is found, the student will read the kindness/respect message to their class and turn it into the office for a small treat.

Oscar Howe Elementary is working toward a school goal of five DreamBox online lessons a week. Once the students achieve that goal, they get to add their corn to the cornfield.

Roosevelt High School students took time out of homecoming week to have lunch with Lowell Elementary kids.

Career-building at Discovery Elementary! Potential future nurse Aaliyah helped Mr. Fischer, the principal, this week after he bumped his ankle on his desk.

This fall festival looked like a lot of fun at Eugene Field Elementary.

Gotta love the newest member of the Lowell Elementary bulldog family.

A generous donor made sure every student at St. Lambert Elementary received a pumpkin this week. And the second through sixth graders painted theirs in art class.

And finally, we bet the team at Sonia Sotomayor Elementary loved seeing this T-shirt all day!
