School News of the Week: Paint the Plow winners, new tech in schools, standout pumpkins

Congratulations to the winning schools in the city of Sioux Falls’ Paint the Plow competition: Fred Assam Elementary and Good Shepherd Lutheran. Here’s their winning work:

Here’s more creativity on display at John Harris Elementary, where third graders made pumpkins into characters from books.

These are some impressive pumpkins brought in for a grade-level contest at Oscar Howe Elementary.

The main entrance to Discovery Elementary got a nice face-lift this week.

This is pretty cool. Students at JFK Elementary now are learning on new ViewSonic interactive ViewBoards. On these, they’re practicing the math skills they have been learning in class.

Here’s a brave principal at Eugene Field Elementary, where fifth graders used a science lesson to make sauces, learning about properties of substances to create mixtures. Their principal, Mr. Mees, got to do the taste-testing.

What a wonderful gift! A woman from Sheldon, Iowa, made quilts for each child in this kindergarten class at Garfield Elementary.

Here’s some appreciated generosity too. The Sioux Falls Public Schools Education Foundation was able to expand teacher appreciation efforts thanks to a donor. It partnered with Scooter’s Coffee to host a pop-up coffee bar at Whittier Middle School! Staff members were able to order iced drinks, and the barista prepared them on-site. If educators were teaching, they could place an order, and other staff members delivered the extra boost of caffeine.

St. Michael Elementary was one holy place last week, filled with little saints.
