School news: New bikes for new year, national champ, seasonal celebrations

Forty Sioux Falls students will ride into the new year with new bikes thanks to donations from the nonprofit group Chariots for Children. The group purchased and assembled 140 bikes to deliver throughout the community. Laura B. Anderson, Garfield and Hayward elementary schools, along with Whittier and McGovern middle schools, received eight bikes each, and students were selected as recipients.

Congratulations to Washington High School student Winnie Haukaas, the tokahe, or first place, finisher in the Physics Knowledge/Quiz Bowl at the Lakota Nation Invitational Tournament.

Here’s a sweet way to learn: German 3 and AP German students at O’Gorman High School created these gingerbread houses modeled after famous German churches, castles and other historic buildings.

Santa, his elf and a reindeer came to school looking like this thanks to a Student Council fundraising competition at Patrick Henry Middle School.
