Construction season is here, so we’re giving you a weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.

What’s done

South Minnesota Avenue from 57th Street to St. Andrews Drive is fully open to traffic.

This segment of Minnesota Avenue had one of the highest crash rates in the city. Most of them were rear-end crashes attributed to a high number of turning vehicles, according to the city.

One of the biggest projects of this year’s road construction season, a center turn lane was added to separate turning traffic from through traffic. This addition will result in major safety improvements on Minnesota Avenue, the city said.

Additionally, the project involved removal of the existing street surfacing, replacing the existing water main, reconstruction of the storm sewer, installation of new streetlights and traffic signals, new concrete pavement, sidewalk and 8-foot-wide side path. Private utility companies also upgraded their facilities during the project.

Because of delays in manufacturing and shipping, the traffic signal has not been completed at Ralph Rogers Road. Based on the city’s communication with the manufacturer, it is anticipated that the remaining components will arrive and will be installed before the end of the year. Periodic lane closures will continue into the spring of 2022 for grass restoration and tree planting.

What’s underway

Beginning Tuesday, the outside northbound and southbound lanes on Marion Road will be closed at 14th Street. There’s utility work happening in the area that is scheduled to be done by the end of the day on Friday.

Spring Avenue has been reduced to one lane south of 31st Street for utility work. This work is anticipated to be completed in a week.
