Road Report: Week of Aug. 16
Construction season is here, so we’re giving you a weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.
What’s done
Concrete repair work on southbound Cliff Avenue just north of 33rd Street is complete and fully open to traffic.
Concrete repair on 26th Street between Western and West avenues is complete and fully open to traffic.
Concrete repair on 26th Street at Eighth Avenue is complete and fully open to traffic.
Concrete repair on Western Avenue at First Street is complete and fully open to traffic.
Work to expand Veterans Parkway at Sixth Street is complete. Work to expand the rest of Veterans near the intersection of Arrowhead Parkway is tentatively scheduled for 2023 or 2024.
What’s underway
Water main work began last week along the west side of Six Mile Road between Donnelly Drive and 10th Street. Traffic will be reduced to one lane controlled by a temporary signal system. Work is expected to be complete in late October.

Bridge maintenance work began last week on the 69th Street bridge over the railroad tracks between Cliff and Southeastern avenues. Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction. Work is expected to be complete by the end of August.

Concrete repair work began last week on Marion Road between 12th and Madison streets. Work is expected to be complete in early November.

Sidewalk repair work began last week on Cliff Avenue between 12th and 14th streets. Work is expected to be complete in about a week.
What’s next
Ralph Rogers Road will be closed from Sweetbriar Drive to Minnesota Avenue starting today as part of the Minnesota reconstruction project. Ralph Rogers Road is expected to reopen to traffic in about one week.
The outside lanes of Kiwanis Avenue will be closed between 13th and 15th streets starting Tuesday to allow crews to install a pedestrian crossing signal. Work is expected to be complete in about two weeks.
The South Dakota Department of Transportation will begin paving on I-229 between Western and Louise avenues Tuesday. At least one lane in each direction will remain open, but delays are expected. The ramps at Western and Louise also may be closed periodically during paving operations. Work is expected to take a few weeks.
Replacement of the railroad crossing north of 10th Street on Valley View Road is scheduled to begin Monday. Valley View will be closed for about one week.
Kiwanis Avenue between 33rd and 41st streets will be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction again to allow crews to perform pavement diamond grinding, reseal the concrete joints and restripe the roadway. This work is expected to take a few weeks to complete.
