Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.

What’s underway

12th Street: Work on 12th Street between Marion and Ellis roads is nearing completion.

Asphalt paving in the westbound lanes is complete, and paving in the eastbound lanes is in progress.

All asphalt paving work should be complete early this week.

After the paving is complete, the contractor will apply striping to the surface before all lanes reopen to traffic at the end of this week or early next week.

South Veterans Parkway: Work continues on South Veterans Parkway between Cliff and Sycamore avenues.

The steel pile installation for the bridge over the railroad tracks between Cliff and Southeastern avenues is almost complete.

These steel piles are the main structural support for the bridge on either side of the railroad tracks.

The bridge girders, or beams, that will span over the railroad tracks are expected to be delivered to the site and installed in late September.

Grading work continues all along the project, and storm drainage pipe and structure work is in progress near Southeastern Avenue.

Southeastern and Sycamore avenues remain closed between 69th and 85th streets.

Motorists should use Cliff Avenue or Highway 11 as alternate routes. All work on this project is expected to be complete in late 2026.

What’s next

The following work will begin today:

  • 22nd Street: 22nd Street will be closed between Spring and Minnesota avenues to allow crews to perform underground utility work. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
  • Veterans Parkway: The outside southbound lane of Veterans Parkway will have intermittent lane closures in place between Arrowhead Parkway and 26th Street to allow crews to unload pipe and other construction materials. These intermittent lane closures will be in place between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. for approximately one week.
  • Cherry Lake Avenue: Cherry Lake Avenue will be closed at the intersection of 12th Street to allow crews to install water main across the intersection. Motorists are encouraged to use Dockside Drive off of Ellis Road or Lakeside Drive off of 12th Street to access the adjacent neighborhood. Traffic on 12th Street will not be impacted. This work is expected to be complete in one to two weeks.
  • 14th & Menlo: The intersection of 14th Street and Menlo Avenue will be closed to allow crews to perform repairs to the sanitary sewer. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
  • Sertoma Avenue: The southbound lane on Sertoma Avenue will be closed between 26th and 32nd streets to allow crews to perform utility work. Southbound traffic will be maintained using the center turn lane. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
