Road Report: Sept. 11, 2023
Construction season is here, and so is our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.
What’s underway
49th Street: The outside westbound lane on 49th Street closed at Solberg Avenue on Friday to allow crews to perform sidewalk repairs. Pedestrian traffic is detoured to the south side of 49th. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
Marion Road: Work continues on Marion Road between Memory Lane and 258th Street, also known as Minnehaha County Highway 130.

County Highway 130 is closed for about eight weeks to allow crews to install water main and widen the roadway to add a turn lane onto Marion Road.

The underground utility work on Marion is complete, gravel is installed, and paving will begin within the next few weeks.

All work on this project is expected to be complete in November.

Veterans Parkway: The contractor is making good progress on Veterans Parkway between Cliff and Western avenues.

The intersection at Cliff is complete and open to traffic. Crews are working on constructing a retaining wall in front of the bridge piles, or supports, at 85th Street and working on grading operations west of Minnesota Avenue.

All work on this project will be complete in late 2024.

41st & I-29: Work is proceeding at the 41st Street and Interstate 29 interchange.

Concrete placement on the north side of the bridge is complete, and concrete paving is in progress on the south side of 41st east of I-29.

Crews also are working on retaining walls.

The northbound on-ramp from 41st to I-29 is expected to reopen sometime this week. All lanes should be open to traffic later this fall. Construction will continue next spring to convert the interchange into the diverging diamond configuration.

What’s next
Beginning today:
85th Street: 85th Street will be closed between Minnesota and Western avenues to allow crews to perform an asphalt mill and overlay. Motorists should use 69th Street as an alternate route. This work is expected to be complete in about three weeks.
Sixth & Cliff: Crews will be demolishing a structure at the southwest corner of Sixth Street and Cliff Avenue. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained at all times, but trucks and equipment will be entering and exiting the roadway onto Cliff while work is occurring. This work is expected to be complete in about two days.
41st Street: The outside eastbound lane on 41st Street will be closed east of Louise Avenue to allow crews to work on electrical lines. This work is expected to be complete in about 10 days.
Beginning Tuesday:
57th Street: The outside westbound lane on 57th Street will be closed between Baja Avenue and Technopolis Drive to allow crews to perform sidewalk repairs. The outside southbound lane of Louise Avenue also will be closed from 55th to 57th streets as part of this work. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
33rd Street: 33rd Street will be closed from Spring to Grange avenues to allow crews to apply a slurry seal coat on the street. This work is expected to be complete by the end of the day.
