Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.

What’s underway

41st & I-29: Concrete paving is in progress on Marion Road south of 41st Street. The curb and gutter was poured last week. The west half of the road was paved Friday, and the east half of the road is scheduled to be paved early this week.

If everything stays on schedule, Marion Road is expected to reopen to one lane of traffic in each direction sometime late this week.

Watch the city of Sioux Falls and South Dakota Department of Transportation social media channels for an opening announcement.

When Marion Road does reopen to traffic, there will be a large grade change from the new pavement to the existing roadway.  Drivers should drive slowly and use extreme caution when driving through the intersection.

Temporary intersection closures on 41st Street west of I-29 will continue periodically to allow crews to reconstruct the street surfacing. Temporary closures of Terry Avenue, Cathy Avenue and Gateway Boulevard at 41st Street will alternate; only one intersection will be closed at a time.

Cliff Avenue: Concrete repair work on Cliff Avenue south of 26th Street has extended south to Pam Road in the past couple of weeks.

Work is in progress on the west side of the road.

Once work on the west side of the road is complete, work will shift to the east side.

Work should be done by mid-August.

What’s next

41st Street: Beginning today, 41st Street will be closed west of Ellis Road to allow crews to install underground utilities at Broek Drive. Traffic should use Highway 42  and 466th Avenue as an alternate route.  This work is expected to be complete by the end of June.

Marion Road: Beginning today, Marion Road will be closed from the north leg of Foundation Court to 259th Street to allow crews to reconstruct Marion Road. Work will consist of new water main, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, curb and gutter, concrete paving, asphalt paving, street lights and traffic signals. The project also includes work on 259th from Marion to the east. Traffic should use Kiwanis Avenue or County Road 141 as alternate routes. This work is expected to be complete in mid-November.

Delaware & F: Beginning today, the intersection of Delaware Street and F Avenue will be closed to allow construction crews to install new water main. This work is expected to be complete in approximately one week.

Russell Street frontage road: Beginning today, the intersection of the Russell Street frontage road at Delaware Street and C Avenue will be closed to allow construction crews to do utility work. This work is expected to be complete in approximately one month.

Madison Street: Beginning today, the outside eastbound lane on Madison Street will be closed between Harlem and Kiwanis avenues to allow a contractor for MidAmerican Energy to do gas line work. This work should be complete in approximately two weeks.
