Road Report: Aug. 14, 2023
Construction season is here, and so is our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.
What’s done
Arrowhead Parkway: All lanes of traffic on Arrowhead Parkway near Six Mile Road are open to traffic!

There still might be some periodic daytime lane closures set up as the contractor finishes a few remaining work items and cleans up the area. Check out how it turned out:

What’s underway
Phillips Avenue: On Aug. 9, Phillips Avenue closed between Falls Park Drive and North Drive to allow crews to perform street maintenance. This work is expected to be complete in about three weeks.
26th Street: Work is in progress along 26th Street between Cleveland and Alpine avenues.

The contractor is upgrading the accessible curb ramps on the north side of the street ahead of an asphalt overlay.

Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction throughout the work area. Work on this project won’t be complete until mid-November.

Unity Bridge & Sixth Street: Progress continues on the Unity Bridge and Sixth Street in downtown Sioux Falls.

Falsework construction for the bridge is about 75 percent complete.

Crews have begun pouring the new concrete surfacing east of the bridge.

The bore pits also are being excavated in preparation to bore under the railroad tracks for the underground utility duct bank.

At one point last week, there were six subcontractor crews working on-site!
What’s next
The following projects are all scheduled to start today:
Ellis Road: The outside northbound lane on Ellis Road will be closed at the intersection of 26th Street to allow crews to perform a concrete repair. One northbound lane of traffic will be maintained at all times during construction. Southbound traffic will not be impacted by this work. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
Ellis Road: The outside southbound lane on Ellis Road will be closed south of 22nd Street to allow crews to perform a concrete repair. One southbound lane of traffic will be maintained at all times during construction. Northbound traffic will not be impacted by this work. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
Veterans Parkway: The outside southbound lane and the right turn lane on Veterans Parkway will be closed north of Madison Street to allow crews to perform a concrete repair. Veterans Parkway: The outside southbound lane and shoulder area on Veterans Parkway will be closed south of Maple Street to allow crews to perform a concrete repair. The outside westbound lane on 41st also will be closed just east of Marion as part of this work. This work is expected to be complete in about one month.
Ninth & Duluth: The intersection of Ninth Street and Duluth Avenue will be closed to allow crews to install a traffic circle. This work will be completed later this summer.
