Road Report: April 18, 2022
Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.
What’s underway
Marion Road: Work on southbound Marion Road at Silver Valley Drive is expected to be completed early this week.
26th & Cliff: Work on concrete repairs at 26th and Cliff continues. Northbound Cliff Avenue is reduced to one lane.

This project consists of full depth and partial depth concrete repairs, accessible curb ramp improvements and minor underground utility repairs.

After the work on 26th Street is done, crews will shift to Cliff Avenue between 26th Street and Pam Road.

Minnesota Avenue: Work on North Minnesota Avenue continues. This week will see the installation of the biggest water valve in the city’s distribution system.

The first of three 42-inch gate valves will be installed as part of the project near Russell Street. The other two 42-inch gate valves will be installed near Bailey Street and near Second Street. Each of these valves costs approximately $95,000, and are critical pieces of infrastructure in the city’s water distribution system.
What’s next
41st Street: The coming week will bring 41st Street-related closures:
- Today, Gateway Boulevard will be closed at 41st for the day to allow crews to install water main. This work is expected to be completed by the end of the workday.
- On Tuesday, Terry Avenue will be closed on the south side of 41st for the day to allow crews to install water main. This work is expected to be completed by the end of the workday.
- Beginning today and extending through May 27, the south-side 41st Street intersections at Gateway Boulevard, Terry Avenue and Cathy Avenue will be closed on an intermittent basis. Only one of these intersections will be closed at a time, and traffic control signs will direct drivers to the open intersections. Construction crews will be installing water, sanitary sewer and storm sewer pipes along 41st throughout this period.
Second Street: Beginning today, Second Street will be closed to traffic on the west side of Minnesota Avenue to allow the contractor to finish pavement removals and begin utility installation. This will affect only traffic eastbound on Second turning south onto Minnesota. The street is expected to be closed until early July.
Marion Road: Beginning Tuesday, the outside northbound lane on Marion Road will be closed just south of 12th Street. This work is expected to be completed by the end of the day Thursday.
