Update: The missing child has been found safe. Sioux Falls police thank you for your help!

Sioux Falls police are asking east-side residents for help finding a missing 6-year-old girl.

Akeer Awuol was last seen wearing a purple long-sleeved shirt, red shorts, no shoes and carrying a pink heart-shaped pillow.

Residents in the area of East 33rd Street and South Fernwood Avenue, where she was last seen on foot, are asked “to check their cars, their homes and any small crawl space areas around their homes to help us try to locate our missing 6-year-old girl,” police said in a statement.

Call 605-367-7000 with any information.

The search started around 3 p.m. The girl has been missing before and is known to hide in cars and around the neighborhood, police said. Police do not need additional help from volunteers in the search at this point.
