My 605: Sadie Swier
What’s home unless you make it your own? My 605 takes you inside the lives, loves and little secrets of those who call South Dakota – area code 605 – home.
This week’s My 605 features Sadie Swier, community outreach coordinator for Downtown Sioux Falls Inc. and the owner of pigeon Hattie.
My home in the 605 is: Downtown Sioux Falls in the All Saints neighborhood. I live in a beautiful one-bedroom studio apartment!

The biggest reason I live in the 605 is: Specific reasons are the professional opportunities, amenities and cost of living as a young professional.
After home, I spend the most time here: Sometimes I feel as though I never leave home! I truly live, work and play in downtown, so it feels like a treat to venture out to other locations.

When I need to get away, you’ll find me: Finding opportunities to travel the region. I’m usually visiting friends and family in Mitchell, Pierre, Rapid City or Minneapolis! I’m also thrilled to travel to Arizona and the Berkshires in 2021.
The best meal I ever ate in the 605 was at: I was born and raised in Hartford, S.D., so one of my favorite meals to eat in the 605 is a prime rib or filet mignon, baked potato and wedge of lettuce from the Hartford Steakhouse Co. Tavern.
My go-to coffee shop is: You’ll always find me at Josiah’s.

My favorite place to grab an adult beverage in the 605 is: I’m always up for happy hour, so you’ll see me at Severance Brewery for a Love Notes and Crawford’s for an Epiphany.

When I need to experience the great outdoors, you’ll find me: In Yankton, S.D. I grew up camping around the Yankton area and kayaking, swimming, tubing on the Missouri River. I absolutely love the scenery and history of the community.

The spot I’d recommend for a date is: For sure R Wine Bar or Ode to Food & Drinks.
The best pizza in the 605 is: Papa Woody’s Wood Fired Pizza hands down!
When my friends and I get together, you’ll probably find us: Bingo or patio at Remedy Brewing Co. or playing in volleyball league Digz in the summer or Kenny Anderson Community Center in the winter.

The place you never can go wrong taking kids is: Washington Pavilion, an entertaining place for kids and adults!
When I want to meet new people in the 605 I: Get involved in networking organizations like 1 Million Cups Sioux Falls, Sioux Falls Up & Coming, Young Professional Network, or volunteer at a community event!

My best memory in the 605 is: One of my favorite memories is spending the day with my grandmas in downtown Sioux Falls. Both of my grandmas on each of my parent’s side live in the area, and we’d have special days visiting the Old Courthouse Museum or Pettigrew Home & Museum, seeing the annual SculptureWalk and driving over the cobblestone part of Sixth Street. Then we’d always eat at one of the downtown restaurants or have a picnic in Falls Park!
The one thing I’m least crazy about in the 605 is: When weather deters people from going outside during the winter months. We live here, and we should dress for it!

And finally, life in pictures. Here are the top three photos that most sum up My 605:
