What’s home unless you make it your own? My 605 takes you inside the lives, loves and little secrets of those who call South Dakota – area code 605 – home.

This week’s My 605 is Kadyn Wittman, director of marketing and development at the Multi-Cultural Center of Sioux Falls and owner of pigeon Gertrude.

My home in the 605 is: I’ve lived in downtown Sioux Falls for seven years. First in the Larson Square building above the delightful Bread & Circus and now on Phillips Avenue, across from the State Theatre. The downtown/uptown area is my favorite place to live, work and play in Sioux Falls, and I have a hard time venturing outside of this 10-block radius!

The biggest reason I live in the 605 is: The possibilities feel endless in Sioux Falls. No matter where you go, you’ll meet people who are starting new businesses, exploring new opportunities and setting lofty goals. Working in the nonprofit world, I often have the opportunity to see leaders across the community come together to support each other, their constituents and their city in new and innovative ways.

After home, I spend the most time here: Carpenter Bar! Just a short block away from my home, this is my favorite place to meet colleagues, friends or new acquaintances. The atmosphere is cozy, and the drinks are delicious.

When I need to get away, you’ll find me: At Form Fitness Studio. I’ve taught yoga for nearly 10 years at many different studios and am currently a teacher at Form. When I’m not teaching, I love to practice yoga and attend classes with different teachers to gain flexibility and mental clarity.

The best meal I ever ate in the 605 was at: The black truffle pasta at Harvester Kitchen by Bryan. Everything from the food itself to the drinks and atmosphere was ideal. We went with a large group of friends, and each of us ordered a different dessert and passed them around the table to determine a winner. The dark chocolate tartlette was the clear winner in my book.

My go-to coffee shop is: Coffea! I love that they have a variety of options outside of traditional coffee and tea, including locally made kombucha from Songbird Kombucha!

My favorite place to grab an adult beverage in the 605 is: As previously mentioned, Carpenter Bar! Failing that, you’ll find me at The Treasury or Highball for cocktails and Remedy Brewing for a locally brewed beer.

When I need to experience the great outdoors, you’ll find me: On the patio of Fernson brewery.

The spot I’d recommend for a date is: Parker’s Bistro is my ultimate date destination. It’s where my partner and I went on our first date and continue to go for romantic nights together! The ambiance is dark and moody, and the cocktails can’t be beat!

The best pizza in the 605 is: Pizza Cheeks, of course!

When my friends and I get together, you’ll probably find us: Eating Indian food and watching a Netflix rom-com.

The place you never can go wrong taking kids is: As the designated “fun aunt,” I’ve found you can’t go wrong with Sky Zone! Fun for kids and adults! The best part is when I’m done plying them with sugar and trampolines I drop them back off with their mother for the inevitable sugar crash.

When I want to meet new people in the 605 I go: A chamber mixer or YPN event. There are always new members in attendance, and it’s a great way to introduce yourself to unfamiliar faces and visit different locations in the city.

My best memory in the 605 is: In January of 2017, I led the first Women’s March through the streets of downtown Sioux Falls. I remember being filled with so much hope for the future and all the possibilities it held. I saw thousands of community members, young and old, all come together in support of the women and girls in their lives. I was — and still am — so proud of this city and all of the people who live here committed to creating and working towards a brighter future and world.

And finally, life in pictures. Here are the top three photos that most sum up My 605:
