What’s home unless you make it your own? My 605 takes you inside the lives, loves and little secrets of those who call South Dakota – area code 605 – home.

This week’s edition features Carly Manahan, who is a new personal banker at Great Western Bank and the owner of pigeon Piglet.

My home in the 605 is: We are happy to reside in the southwest side of Sioux Falls.

The biggest reason I live in the 605 is: The people! I moved to South Dakota from Denver back in 2013 for college and haven’t left since. I always thought it was cliche to hear that the Midwest has the kindest people, but it is so true! Regardless if it is my neighbor or a complete stranger, I have always been greeted with the sweetest smiles and warmest hellos by people who are willing to help at the drop of a hat.

After home, I spend the most time here: I don’t really have a good answer to this – yet! We moved to Sioux Falls one month and 10 days prior to COVID, so we have yet to explore some of the hidden beauties of the area.

When I need to get away, you’ll find me: At Czeckers Sports Bar & Grill in Yankton. I adore all the people in that place – staff and customers alike. And the owners are some really rad people!

The best meal I ever ate in the 605 was at: Favorite comfort food ever is the beef lo mein and crab rangoons from Silk Road Cafe in Vermillion.

My go-to coffee shop is: I’m a sucker for Starbucks but do have an appreciation for the simplicity that is offered by the local shops.

My favorite place to grab an adult beverage in the 605 is: We really enjoy going to Look’s Marketplace. They have a very unique variety with their drinks, with very fresh ingredients.

When I need to experience the great outdoors, you’ll find me: In my backyard. As much as the outdoors are incredible, I don’t have a huge sense of adventure for the great outdoors.

The spot I’d recommend for a date is: Willa B’s in Yankton – best breakfast date place EVER!

The best pizza in the 605 is: From my experiences, I’d say Papa Woody’s takes the cake on this one.

When my friends and I get together, you’ll probably find us: R Wine Bar enjoying live music or Remedy Brewing Co. losing at bingo on Wednesday nights. Great atmospheres with fun, free activities to enjoy while catching up.

The place you never can go wrong taking kids is: I can’t say I’ve had to experience this since I don’t have any kids, but I personally love the Great Plains Zoo.

When I want to meet new people in the 605 I go: To YPN (Young Professionals Network) events. It is great to meet people around my age with similar priorities as me.

My best memory in the 605 is: Is it too cheesy to say meeting the love of my life at college in Yankton? We have now bought a house in Sioux Falls and planted our roots in the 605.

The one thing I’m least crazy about in the 605 is: There’s not much I’m not crazy about. We moved to Sioux Falls last February right before the pandemic hit, so I’m looking forward to a summer of events – hopefully!!

And finally, life in pictures. Here are the top three photos that most sum up My 605:
