Montgomery’s previews expanded store coming in early 2026

If Black Friday is an indicator, shoppers are ready to update their homes at Montgomery’s.
“Black Friday was a huge day for us,” company president Eric Sinclair said. “We do some special things on Black Friday, and customers really came out for it.”
Montgomery’s is committed to giving customers even more reason to visit — especially at its Sioux Falls store, where a major expansion east of the location at 1725 W. 41st St. is making solid progress.

“Things are moving along well as we look to be open sometime in January,” Sinclair said. “We’ve got a lot to get accomplished between now and then, so it’s all hands on deck, and things are moving much quicker.”

With the additional space, Montgomery’s will create a nearly 10,000-square-foot design center, led by a senior designer and a team capable of handling anything from large commercial projects to individual residential needs.
“I think it will be one of the nicest design centers in the Midwest,” Sinclair said. “We’ll have every tool available as our designers help select finishes — from flooring to lighting, countertops, window treatments and wallpaper — all the finishes to make a room beautiful will be there.”
Signage on 41st Street will underscore what’s offered inside.
“We want to be as direct as possible about what customers will find here,” Sinclair said. “We still find customers are surprised to learn we offer things like window treatments and floor coverings, so now this area will have its own entrance, and that’s a big deal for us.”

The new addition also will include a large, immersive motion gallery.
“This is the hottest, fastest-growing trend I’ve seen in the industry in 20 years,” Sinclair said. “It’s moving super-fast, and we want to be a leader in it.”
Some of the newest offerings include furniture that automatically rocks, embedded sound systems in sofas and Bluetooth embedded in furniture that connects to your television.

“We saw some pieces where a TV is built right into the furniture, so you don’t even buy a TV,” Sinclair said. “So this will be a whole motion area showing all the extra features. I think customers will be surprised by the value offered. We have a leather sofa with a fridge in it, sound goes through it, and it massages, heats and cools for under $3,000.”
Montgomery’s also will be able to offer more ongoing value-priced merchandise to customers with its larger location.
“We’ve never had a clearance area in Sioux Falls, and we will now,” Sinclair said. “We wanted an area consumers can go for a hot closeout deal while still finding higher-quality fashion products.”

Montgomery’s also will be bringing in “more of our best-selling items from other markets at popular price points that have never been able to fit here,” he continued. “So we think there are customers who now will find we’re in their budget and will begin to shop with us.”
Speaking of value, if you’re looking for a furniture update before 2026, stop in now, he advised.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen so much red tag clearance in the store,” Sinclair said. “We have a lot on clearance because we have a lot of new product moving in, so it’s a great time to come in if someone is looking for a deal.”
With the bigger store, Montgomery’s also is able to grow its team.

“We’ve hired some people already but are always looking for people with design degrees or a passion for design,” Sinclair said. “We don’t have a lot of turnover, but we have added to our team, and we would be open to adding more.”
The expanded space also is allowing Montgomery’s to bring in two complementary tenants, including Kids 2 College Furniture, which is leasing about 9,000 square feet.

“We’re very excited to get into our new space,” owner Traci Cavanaugh said.
“It’s been a long process, but it’s given us time to reflect on how this new area will be laid out. We want to make it easy for parents to shop with their kids and really get excited about creating a fun and functional room.”
The design is intended to help customers visualize what can fit into a standard bedroom.
“This is especially helpful when planning a nursery,” Cavanaugh said. “Often parents need a crib, changer station, dresser and a rocking chair. We will be able to show them exactly what it will look like in the average room.”
She said she has enjoyed collaborating with the talented Montgomery’s designers already.
“Several are young moms and have given us some opinions on what they would like to see,” she said. “Of course, their ideas are so important and valuable for us. The Montgomery’s showroom is always so beautiful. We want to make sure we step up to the level they’ve set. We are looking to add the ‘fun factor’ to the neighborhood. After all, we do have the slides, castles and race car beds with flashing light and revving engines!”
Her hope is to be open by Feb. 1. The plan is to operate in her current location at the Western Mall until mid-January.
Shane Oien is leasing the remainder of the space, including a warehouse that’s included with it. He’s moving his HomeLife store from farther west on 41st Street, where it specializes in deeply discounted and crate-style sales from major retailers, including Amazon and Target.
“I think it’s a great combination for us,” he said. “Being on 41st Street allows us to be easily found, plus we have warehouse space that gives us enough space to support both our retail and our wholesale business. It’s a nice hybrid, and we think it will be a destination, including for those coming from out of town because it’s a reasonable driving distance for a lot of people.”
He hopes to be open by the end of January.
