Kids say the darndest things.

A pair of Sioux Falls youth baseball players have become a viral sensation because of their hilariously candid comments and conversations caught on video during coach-pitch Sioux Empire Baseball Association games this summer.

SportsCenter, CBS Sports, Yahoo Sports, Barstool Sports and more have featured the video, which was posted on social media last week.

Former World Series Champion Joba Chamberlain even retweeted the video, commenting, “This is an absolute instant classic.”

The video, created by their dad and coach, Chad Hunt, follows brothers Kamden, 6, and Hayes, 5, during two games this season.

Recorded comments range from “It’s raining tacos in the sky. Nom, nom, nom, nom, so yummy in my belly” during the warmup to “Nobody say ‘Pitcher’s got a big butt to me’” during play, referencing the classic “Rookie of the Year” movie.

“The kids are out there to have fun and play with friends. They’re not there to throw the perfect game. Winning isn’t even on their mind,” Hunt said of the video’s charm and popularity. “I think that’s why people enjoy it. It took parents and former coaches back, and grown-ups take life too seriously. It’s a good reminder to step back and be a kid again.”

Hunt found inspiration for the video from microphoned professional sports videos and a similar children’s hockey practice video he saw years ago. He thought something like this would be fun to record for his children.

But while he thought he would just be adding “another memory to the file” for his kids, it turned out to be, “as everyone agrees: gold,” Hunt said.

It also captured more than Kamden and Hayes, catching conversations from just about the entire team.

Austin Bramley, a friend of Hunt’s and uncle to another player on the team, helped Hunt capture the videos. Bramley posted the edited video to Twitter last week, which had garnered over 1 million views as of Monday.

Bramley said he was “shooting from the hip,” during the videos and wasn’t able to hear what the brothers were saying, thankfully.

“If I did, I would have been laughing the entire time, and the camera shots would have been way more unsteady,” he joked. “I’ve rewatched the videos 100 times so far and still find myself laughing at different parts.”

Editing the footage down to short videos took eight to 10 hours, Hunt said. While he works with video for a living as a digital video manager at the Sanford Pentagon, the extra hours were worth it.

“It puts a huge smile on my face,” Hunt said of the video and coaching the team. “I think I probably had more fun than the kids did.”

Hunt is in his third year of coaching and finds it rewarding to watch the kids grow from their hard work. It makes sense why one of his favorite comments in the video is when Hayes gives a teammate coaching advice to “hit a home run” instead of a foul ball, however self-explanatory that advice may be.

“You get a little older, and coaches get more serious, and you travel more, and there’s more pressure. At this age, it’s about opening their eyes to a good experience,” Hunt said.

Hunt also makes trading cards for his team at the end of each season, recounting each player’s achievements.

While Hunt just planned this video for the memories, he’s now planning to create a digital scrapbook of the comments and responses from the millions of people the video has touched. Both brothers have been asking their mother repeatedly what people have been commenting about them online, he added.

“To have the kids give something good to the world made me super proud to be their dad,” Hunt said.
