Kayak rental business rebrands, expands with new owners
King Kayak Rentals has rebranded as Boundless Adventures 605 with new owners Mackenzie “Mack” Lien and Andrea Thorson.
Both Lien and Thorson have worked at camps and as educators for many years and have a passion for adventure.

“We purchased the kayak rental business last fall and have slowly made it our own,” Lien said.
Boundless Adventures 605 has 25 kayaks available for rent along with a paddleboard.

Lien and Thorson are familiar with the Sioux Falls area and said they are looking forward to helping locals connect more with outdoor adventures.
“This has been a pipe dream and passion for us,” Thorson said. “The opportunity unfolded for us to buy the former King Kayaks, and it became a good gateway into our new business.”

Lien and Thorson plan to host various programming events, including outfitting for longer adventures, camping programs for adults and kids, and working with neurodivergent customers.
“We know that transporting kayaks is not the easiest, so we want to make it more accessible,” Thorson said. “We know getting on the water is of interest to many people, and bringing the kayaks to people is a more accessible way to help people.”

Lien and Thorson provide transportation services and bring kayaks and other outdoor equipment to their customers.
“This year, the river has been up, so we’ve been running the river in Sioux Falls quite a bit,” Lien said. “We’ve gone out to Split Rock Creek too and a dammed-up creek in Garretson that is beginner-friendly.”
Earlier this summer, Lien and Thorson brought their kayaks to Jesse James Days in Garretson. They rented kayaks at a discounted price for a moonlit glow stick paddle.

“It was very successful, so we’d like to offer that again to others,” Thorson said. “It was so fun to see the community out on the lake with glow sticks.”

They did a second one for July at Wall Lake.

Thorson said Boundless Adventures 605 looks forward to working with organizations in Sioux Falls.
“We both have a passion for this place and a heart for this community,” Thorson said. “We want to expand the adventures and bring adventure to anyone, no matter what level of experience.”

As Lien and Thorson move forward with their business, they said they especially are passionate about neurodiverse folk or those with less experience outdoors.
“We want to work with people at all walks of life, and being outdoors in this way makes anybody light up,” Lien said. “And it is empowering.”
