When it comes to fall trends, Rachel Opstad knows what she’s talking about.

Opstad, co-owner of Mainstream Boutique at Dawley Farm Village, just returned from a trip to market in Las Vegas to find items to stock the east-side boutique. She said brown tones were one of the most common fall trends she saw.

“If you’re looking to add something that’ll go with a lot in your wardrobe, grabbing something neutral will be perfect,” Opstad said.

Another popular new trend is adding a pop of color, like magenta, to a neutral fall outfit.

Other trendy colors include mustard and olive tones.

When it comes to denim, Opstad said skinny jeans are still popular, though more people are trending toward a more relaxed fit, flare or wide-leg jean.

One of the most common items she recommends for back-to-school is a “shacket,” short for “shirt jacket.” She already has sold out some because they’re so popular, and there are plenty more to come.

When it comes to accessories, Mainstream Boutique is stocking hats to add to any fall outfit, and easy pull-on boots are another addition to the neutral styles.

Opstad said white booties, midcalf boots and shoes with more of a wedge are in fashion compared with the taller boots of last fall.

And, as it gets colder, “obviously the sweaters” will come back into style as well.

Opstad has all of these items at Mainstream Boutique, and she’s able to order online if there are more specific trends that pop up. Click here to find her on Facebook.
