Audio drama pros launch series

The Sioux Falls producers of the award-winning sci-fi audio drama “Girl in Space” have a new series.

The husband-and-wife team of Tim Krause and Sarah Rhea Werner launched “Omen,” a fantasy audio drama, June 6.

A prologue released two weeks earlier set up the series as delivering “adventures on the high seas, exploration of ancient ruins and even a few pirates and explosions,” the creators said in a statement.

Krause is the writer and director, and Werner, who is the creator and star of “Girl in Space,” serves as executive producer.

“I am super excited about this show!” she said. “It has warmth, found family, courage, adventure, mystery and all of the elements that make for a compelling audio drama. Producing ‘Omen’ has been an exciting new challenge for me, and I am so grateful to the amazingly talented creators involved.”

“Girl in Space,” which chronicles a young scientist abandoned on a dying ship in the farthest reaches of known space as she fights to survive, has been downloaded more than 1 million times and won multiple industry awards.

Werner currently is midway through writing the second season.

She also hosts and produces “Write Now,” a podcast aimed at helping writers find work-life balance.

“Omen” is a serial fantasy audio drama that follows a group of adventurers on a quest to solve a kidnapping while simultaneously being swept up in a diabolical conspiracy. Starring voice actors from around the globe, the series “features positive, relationship-driven storytelling delivered through inclusive and relatable dialogue without relying (too heavily) on high fantasy tropes,” the creators said.

Its first season will include 12 episodes averaging 30 to 40 minutes each, with new episodes released every two weeks.

“I really tried to involve as many different voices in the production as possible,” Krause added. “Fantasy is for everyone. And I want ‘Omen’ to be welcoming and accepting, not just a reflection of my own experiences with the genre.”
