The Sioux Falls Area Humane Society is at capacity and has suspended accepting animals surrendered by owners, the organization announced today.

“This decision will help ensure that all current residents receive the care and attention they need,” the organization said in a statement.

The Humane Society will continue to accept strays. If you find a stray, continue to bring the animal to the shelter at 3720 E. Benson Road.

“We appreciate your understanding and support as we work hard to adopt more animals out or find rescue placements,” the Humane Society said.

The move comes following a summer of overcrowding at the shelter. It set a one-month record for adoptions in July and is on track for another record year.
