Road Report: June 29, 2026
Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.
What’s underway
Arrowhead & Veterans: Crews are making progress at the intersection of Arrowhead and Veterans parkways.

Grading and storm drainage pipe installation is in progress on the west side of the intersection.

Work will begin again soon on the pedestrian underpasses on the west side of the intersection as well.

Crews also are working east of the intersection on median walls and sidewalks.

Arrowhead Parkway will remain closed between Highline Avenue and Veterans Parkway until all work is substantially complete later this fall.
Russell Street: Work continues on Russell Street between Louise and Minnesota avenues.

The intersection of Russell Street and Louise/Westport avenues was closed overnight for several days a couple of weeks ago to allow the contractor to install an asphalt overlay there.

Now, work is focused on full and partial depth concrete repairs in the westbound lanes of Russell between Minnesota and West avenues, and in the eastbound lanes of Russell east of Minnesota Avenue to the railroad bridge.

Work on Russell Street will be completed later this fall.

Minnesota Avenue: Work continues on Minnesota Avenue between Second and Eighth streets.

Crews are installing the new 42-inch diameter water main on the west side of the street between Second and Fourth streets.

Other crews are working on installing a smaller water main, sanitary sewer and storm drainage piping on the east side of Minnesota between Fourth and Eighth streets.

Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction throughout the project, with no left turns allowed.

A detour is set up to access businesses along Minnesota Avenue, as well as the Law Enforcement Center and Minnehaha County Courthouse. All work on this project is expected to be complete in November.

What’s next
72nd Street North: Beginning today, 72nd Street North will be closed from Seubert to 476th avenues to allow crews to reconstruct the street. Motorists should use 258th Street as a detour route. Traffic on 476th will not be impacted at this time; however, it will need to be closed for several weeks starting in mid-to-late July. This project will include removal of the existing gravel roadway, installation of sanitary sewer, water main, storm drainage infrastructure, grading and asphalt paving. All work is expected to be complete in November.
12th Street: Beginning today, the outside eastbound through lane and eastbound right turn lane on 12th Street will be closed at Lyons Avenue to allow crews to perform accessible curb ramp repairs. Two lanes of eastbound traffic will be maintained at all times. Westbound traffic will not be impacted. The sidewalk on the south side of 12th Street also be closed during this work. Pedestrian traffic will be detoured to the north sidewalk. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
41st Street: Beginning today, the outside eastbound lane of 41st Street will be closed at Kiwanis Avenue to allow crews to perform concrete work. The southbound lane on Kiwanis also will be closed just south of 41st. This work is expected to be complete by the end of the day.
41st Street: Beginning on Tuesday, the outside westbound lane of 41st Street will be closed between Shirley Avenue and Interstate 29 to allow crews to perform utility work. The north sidewalk also will be closed. Pedestrian traffic will be detoured to the south sidewalk. This work is expected to be complete by the end of the day.
Phillips Avenue: Beginning on Wednesday, Phillips Avenue will be closed between 10th and 11th streets to allow crews to perform work with a crane. The west sidewalk also will be closed. Pedestrian traffic will be detoured to the east sidewalk. This work is expected to be complete by the end of the day.
Cleveland Avenue: Beginning on Wednesday, southbound traffic on Cleveland Avenue will be shifted to the center turn lane between Madison and Rice streets to allow crews to perform utility work. The west sidewalk also will be closed. This work is expected to be complete in about two days.
