Road Report: Aug. 18, 2025
Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.
What’s underway
Arrowhead Parkway: Work is progressing on Arrowhead Parkway east of Veterans Parkway.

Sanitary sewer work is in progress along Veterans Parkway north and south of Arrowhead Parkway, storm drainage pipe installation is in progress, dirt is being filled in around one of the pedestrian underpasses, and the retaining wall on the east end of the project is nearing completion.

Grading will continue for the next several weeks, and paving may begin soon on the east end of the project.

Arrowhead Parkway will remain closed east of Veterans Parkway until November. All work on this project won’t be completed until late 2026.
Cliff & I-229: Work continues to make good progress at the Cliff Avenue and Interstate 229 interchange.

Underground utility work is mostly complete for this construction year, some pavement was poured along I-229 last week, the bridge girders began to be set last week, paving on 41st Street is complete, and the vast majority of the pavement on Cliff Avenue in front of Lincoln High School is nearing completion.

The city has announced that Cliff Avenue will open to one lane of traffic in each direction early Thursday morning – just in time for the first day of school!

41st Street west of Cliff Avenue also will reopen at this time. Beginning on Thursday, motorists and pedestrians can expect the following:
-
- Cliff Avenue will be open to one lane of traffic in each direction through the interchange.
- 41st Street will be open between Minnesota and Cliff avenues.
- A temporary traffic signal will be located at the intersection of 41st and Cliff.
- A pedestrian route will be open along the east side of Cliff through the interchange.
- A temporary pedestrian signal will be in place to allow pedestrians to cross Cliff just north of 38th Street.
- All access points to Lincoln High School will be open.
- I-229 remains under construction – the southbound ramps remain closed to traffic; the northbound ramps remain open to traffic.

The city and the state Department of Transportation are encouraging drivers to continue taking alternate routes to work in the morning if they do not work at, attend or have students to drop off at Lincoln High School, which will help alleviate traffic congestion around the school.

This year’s work will continue until late November, at which time all traffic lanes will reopen to traffic for the winter before construction starts on the south side of I-229 next year. All work is expected to be complete in early 2027.

What’s next
South Veterans Parkway: Beginning today, pile driving will begin on South Veterans Parkway east of the railroad tracks about a half-mile east of Cliff Avenue. This may cause additional noise near the construction area. Pile driving has been ongoing since late July, with work on the west side of the railroad tracks being completed last week. These piles will support the bridge that will be constructed over the railroad tracks later this fall and into next year. All work on the new segment of Veterans between Cliff and Sycamore avenues will be complete in late 2026.
Sycamore Avenue: Beginning today, Sycamore Avenue will be closed between Producer Lane and 60th Street North to allow crews to perform utility work. Traffic will be detoured to Velocity Avenue and Producer. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
Blackhawk Street: Beginning today, Blackhawk Street will be closed between A and B avenues to allow crews to make a new utility connection. Traffic will be detoured onto Cherokee Street. This work is expected to be complete in two to three days.
