My 605: Gabrielle Hoing
What’s home unless you make it your own? My 605 takes you inside the lives, loves and little secrets of those who call South Dakota – area code 605 – home.
This week’s edition features Gabrielle Hoing, owner and co-founder of Kore Cares and owner of pigeon Memory.

My home in the 605 is: My family and I currently reside in Hartford, South Dakota, but I grew up in Chamberlain and Norris, South Dakota. If you haven’t heard of Norris, you should look it up.
The biggest reason I live in the 605 is: The people and the places. The people here are very supportive and friendly. We really have everything we need in South Dakota. There are great places to eat, work, play and live! As a business owner, I also very much appreciate how supportive everyone has been and the fact that South Dakota does not over-regulate.
After home, I spend the most time here: I have two boys, and they love going back to the family farms in Kimball and Chamberlain to help and play with their cousins. If we are not visiting family, you can find me at the golf course, enjoying Hartford’s bike trail, camping or at the I-90 racetrack.
When I need to get away, you’ll find me: We love to visit the Black Hills to snowmobile, camp, explore and hike. If we need a break from the South Dakota winter, you can find me at a tropical all-inclusive. I have met so many great people from the Midwest during our all-inclusive vacations.

The best meal I ever ate in the 605 was at: Foley’s, now Morrie’s Steakhouse. I never had a bad meal there. We also love Hartford’s steakhouse and Red Lobster.
My go-to coffee shop is: This may shock many, but I am not much of a coffee drinker. Starbucks is conveniently located a block from my office, so if we need coffee or a good hot chocolate, that’s our go-to. If I need a good protein shake, I go to Stomping Grounds in Hartford, I love their peanut butter dream.

My favorite place to grab an adult beverage in the 605 is: We have a lot of neat places in Hartford, including the brewery, the Dugout, The South Bar and The Goat. Each establishment has a different feel and different entertainment options.

When I need to experience the great outdoors, you’ll find me: Hiking or swimming at a state park or enjoying the Hartford bike trail.
The spot I’d recommend for a date is: This summer in the midst of COVID, my husband and I found ourselves looking for date ideas. One night, we went to Big J’s in Humboldt, ordered food to go and sat next to a lake enjoying our meal. It was quite peaceful. Another fun date is eating downtown (in Sioux Falls) at a restaurant with outdoor seating next to the river and then walking down to Falls Park after supper.

The best pizza in the 605 is: Mackenzie River.
When my friends and I get together, you’ll probably find us: In the summer, we frequent the GreatLIFE golf courses, watch my husband race at the I-90 Speedway and take the kids to Lake Vermillion.
The place you never can go wrong taking kids is: Woodlake GreatLIFE pool in the winter or the Hartford city pool in the summer. We love to swim!
When I want to meet new people in the 605 I go: I love being involved in various organizations in Sioux Falls such as the Sioux Falls and Hartford chambers, SME and YPN. I have met a lot of great people at networking or educations events offered through these organizations.
My best memory in the 605 is: I have always loved camping. I have fond memories as a kid camping, and now I take my kids, and we always have a great time. We also enjoy helping our parents with ranch work. The kids very much enjoy working cows and then enjoying my mom’s Dutch oven cooking in the evening.
The one thing I’m least crazy about in the 605 is: When it’s negative 20 and the wind is blowing 35 miles per hour.
And finally, life in pictures. Here are the top three photos that most sum up My 605:
