This paid event listing is sponsored by Taste the Goodness.

The annual fundraiser Taste the Goodness will mark its first decade this summer and bring with it new additions for this year’s event.

“This event is a great way to spend a summer night downtown. It’s all outdoors, under tents, and attendees can enjoy unlimited tastings of a variety of local food, beer, wine, bourbon and other beverages,” said Jan Feterl, director of marketing and special events for the Catholic Community Foundation for Eastern South Dakota.

“It’s a really fun atmosphere – we’ll have music, games and an impressive silent auction.”

The event will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Aug. 3 in the parking lot of the Avera Tech Building, 212 E. 11th St.

New games and activities this year include a caricature artist, new yard games and some new participants in the dunk tank, including city of Sioux Falls public health director and Minnehaha County Commissioner Joe Kippley, Avera chief legal officer Rich Korman and Father Tom Hartman, pastor of St. Michael Parish.

“Food tastings will include a wide range of options, including appetizers, main dishes, snacks and sweet treats. We’ve asked vendors to share the dish they do best, so we’re excited to see what they bring to the table,” Feterl said.

The event will include more than 30 food vendors, including Crave, Crawford’s, Chef Dominique’s, Minervas, Flyboy Donuts, Oh My Cupcakes, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Plaza Azteca and more.

There also will be more than 80 craft beers from local and regional breweries and a variety of wine and bourbon. Nonalcoholic options will include  Ziggi’s Coffee and SoDak Soda.

“At its heart, this evening is about community — getting together to taste some of the best food and drink Sioux Falls has to offer while directly supporting the important and ever-expanding services the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House offers to those in our community in most need,” Feterl said.

Proceeds from this event benefit the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House, ensuring that the organization can continue to offer safety, shelter and resources to those experiencing homelessness.

“One of the ways that they do this is through their new Center for Families,” Feterl said “As their services expand, so too does their need for support in order to provide things like furnishings and programming at the facility. Guests can learn more about their mission and their needs by visiting with BDHH staff and volunteers at this event.”

More than 300 volunteers are needed to help run the event. There are opportunities to help set up during the day, as well as opportunities to help during the event itself: pouring drinks and handing out food, facilitating games and working behind the scenes to help things run smoothly. After 8 p.m., volunteers will get to join in on the tastings!

“We’re always grateful to invite new sponsors into this event,” Feterl said. “This is a truly impactful way to give back to the Sioux Falls community by supporting the work of the Bishop Dudley Hospitality House.”

Volunteer sign-up and sponsorship opportunities can be found on the event website.

Tickets can be purchased online in advance for $45 or at the gate for $50.
