Custom landscaping with project management leads to hassle-free home improvements

For a time last fall, Tammy Mosser struggled to find someone willing to landscape her new yard.
“I was talking to someone and then never heard from him again, even after we tried to reach him, and then we called other places, and people just didn’t get back to us,” she said.
That changed with a call to Landscape Garden Centers, where the Mossers immediately connected with the expertise they needed.
“So we were very, very happy when Trenor at Landscape Garden Centers spent a long time walking around our house and going over what he envisioned in different areas with us,” Mosser said.
Not far away in another brand-new east-side Sioux Falls home, Amber Blom made only one call when she needed landscaping help.
“I’d shopped at Landscape Garden Centers before, and they were the first company that came to mind,” she said. “We had just built a new home and didn’t have any landscaping, and they designed the entire yard, front and back, understanding we wanted to do the work in stages when it made sense to us financially.”

Both homeowners now have yards they love thanks to working with Landscape Garden Centers’ full-service team. Residential designers Trenor Javurek and Sam McInerney and their project managers tackle a wide range of work for homeowners.
“We’ll meet with customers regarding their project on-site to get an idea of what they want – that can be anything from plants to retaining walls, paver patios, pretty much everything involved in an outdoor space,” McInerney said. “We can provide the ideas and the work to make it happen.”

The Landscape Garden Centers team will put together a 2D or 3D design to give homeowners a clear sense of what the project will look like, then help source everything needed for the work – whether that’s inside the garden center or through leading area vendors.
“They just need to schedule an appointment, and one of us will start to work with them and discuss needs, wants and budgets, and go from there,” Javurek said.
For the Mossers, that involved sourcing about eight trees, including three ornamental varieties, “lots of grasses, which I was really pleased with, and they had great insight with flowers,” she said.

“We have some hostas, and I really wanted hydrangeas, and we have some lilies and coneflowers, and it was just what we’d envisioned, but better because he knows how plants and colors go together.”

Her landscaping team even determined how to fix an area near the home where water was pooling.

“Instead of having to spend a whole lot of money ripping out an issue, they created a tiny trench, and you can’t even tell it’s there, and they did such a nice job. They took care of the water that had been pooling under our window,” Mosser said.
“The workmanship was great, and they left our place so well done and neat and clean. We were very, very pleased with the flexibility as we changed our minds throughout the project, and I absolutely love it.”

She loved the work so much that “we decided midway through we wanted to add more, and they were here within two days and did what we wanted,” she added. “And now, I think we might be adding a bit more after we go a year and see, but we would definitely go back.”
For the Bloms, “we decided to go with starting on the backyard and creating some beds, adding trees, and we did some plants and mow line around the fence,” she said.

“I told Trenor I wanted something more unique versus cookie-cutter for my landscaping, and I felt like he really understood that and explained to me why he was suggesting certain trees or plants and balancing everything, so I felt like he really understood what I was going for.”
She chose specific pine trees and made changes along the way.
Take a look at her yard before and after:

“They were really quick and efficient, with great communication,” Blom said.
“As I saw the beds filling in, I knew I was going to need more plants in there, and I said, ‘Push the brakes; I want to add more,’ and we filled out the beds they created, and they accommodated me adding to the project midway through, and it was no big deal.”

She’ll likely add to the backyard or the front and eventually put in a garden.
“They made me feel like that was totally OK, and there was no pressure to spend more than we had allotted, so I felt really good about that,” Blom said. “I love it. I just told my husband, we only did part of the bigger plan, and I couldn’t be happier. I spend a lot of time out there watering the plants, and it’s really nice. We have a firepit, and while we’re sitting out there now, it just feels cozier.

What to know
If you’re considering a landscaping project this year, there’s still time to connect with Landscape Garden Centers.
“It will vary depending on the scale of the project, but if it’s a smaller project, we likely can get to it in between bigger multiday projects, and if it’s a larger one, we still can look at taking it on this year,” Javurek said.

You’ll likely be able to schedule a meeting shortly after reaching out. Once you decide to work with Landscape Garden Centers, “We’ll manage the whole project and take care of it all,” McInerney said. “That includes things like outdoor kitchens, paving work, pergolas and pools. If we’re not doing the work ourselves, we’re still managing the entire project.”

Whether it’s a large-scale landscaping project or a smaller new addition, you’ll quickly notice the change once you give your outdoor living space an upgrade, he added.
“We have a lot of really unique and interesting plants in the nursery this year,” McInerney said. “The quality and inventory is really impressive, and if anyone stops in, you’ll see it for yourself. It’s a great opportunity to beautify the outside of your house. Even a couple trees and a few plants can go a long way.”
