There’s a new way to get in a workout at a Sioux Falls park.

Rotary Park at 26th Street and Southeastern Avenue has added a fitness court — the first in the city’s parks system.

“We had a number of people stop when we were doing our final walk-through, and some users as soon as we took down the fence,” said Tory Miedema, park development specialist.

The fitness court includes multiple stations of exercise equipment.

There are QR codes to help visitors learn how to use the equipment. The manufacturer, Kompan, also offers an app with instructions and free workouts to try.

The fitness court is open during park hours, but it’s not lit for evening.

“This spot was a great fit being on the main trail loop with parking, restrooms, picnic shelter and playground nearby to entertain all ages,” Miedema said.

The parks department will analyze the usage of this first court to determine if more will be installed throughout the city, he said.

“It fits in well with the mayor’s initiative on fitness and well-being,” Miedema said. “We expect to see more in the future.”
