Dec. 2: Artists reception
East Bank Art Gallery, 401 E. Eighth St., will host its First Friday Artist Reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. The works of member artist John Olson are being featured in December. A woodworker since he was 8, Olson uses almost exclusively wood from trees that have blown down or been cut down, wood he has found or donations.

Dec. 2-3: Art Collective
One of Sioux Falls’ largest gathering of local artists will run over two days this weekend at the Washington Pavilion Visual Arts Center. The free show features artists of all ages. There will be a full bar serving cocktails. A raffle for a dollar a ticket will include prints and originals from the artists. Hours are 4 to 10 p.m. Friday and 3 to 10 p.m. Saturday. Other First Friday events downtown include treats and games at the Phillips Avenue Plaza from 4 to 6 p.m., a budget-friendly art show at Rehfeld’s and Noche Mexicana at the Jones421 Building. The Flying Santo Taco Bar will offer live music from mariachi singer and songwriter Francisco Castro and traditional music and dance from folk ballet “El son de mi tierra.”

Dec. 3: Winter formal
Break out the tiny tuxes and petite prom dresses. Siouxland Libraries’ Prairie West Branch will host a winter formal for babies and kids up to age 5 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday. It will include music, dancing, bubbles, crafts and snacks. Caregivers can dress up, too, or children and adults can come in whatever is most comfortable. Registration is required because of library capacity.

Dec. 3: 605 Made Holiday Market
The annual 605 Made Holiday Market will feature goods from 50-plus makers. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the underground parking garage at Cherapa Place.
Dec. 3: Cookies and Cocoa
South Dakota Parent Connection is bringing holiday cheer on Saturday. Cookies and Cocoa will run from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Museum of Visual Materials, 500 N. Main Ave. The event will include music, games, activities, photos with Santa, cookies, cocoa and a raffle.

Dec. 3: Broadway and beyond
The Sioux Falls-based Broad Cast Theatre will present an evening of songs and monologues beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Icon Events Hall. Some Broadway songs will be featured. Tickets are available at the door.

Dec. 4: Young photographers
Aspiring photographers age 10 to 18 can take part in a training session, “Picture Perfect,” with the cameras on their smartphones at West Sioux Studios, 2300 W. Madison St. It runs from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Hosted by Sioux Falls School District Community Education, you can register here.

Dec. 6: Filmmakers Roundtable
Filmmakers, actors and anyone interested in the arts are invited to a filmmakers workshop. A dialogue scene between two actors with an original script by Matt Petty will be shot with an opportunity to pair with a mentor to learn about direction. The two-hour roundtable will begin at 6 p.m. at Last Stop CD Shop, 3509 W. 41st St.

Upcoming: Dec. 9-10
Love the music of “A Charlie Brown Christmas”? You’ll have two chances to catch it at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 9 and `0 at DaDa Gastropub. Studio B Jazz will perform. The free event is for all ages; DaDa Gastropub’s full menu and drink selection will be available. Reservations are strongly encouraged.
