The week ahead: Sept. 21-27
The Week Ahead is our hand-picked event guide to the next seven days in Sioux Falls and slightly beyond. For guaranteed placement or to promote your event ahead of time, email [email protected] about a featured event listing.
Sept. 21: Food trucks
This beautiful weather can’t last forever, and dining outdoors will be just a memory until spring. That’s why you should visit the east parking lot of The First National Bank’s downtown building from 11:30 to 2 p.m. Thursday. You can choose to buy a meal from the offerings served by Breaking Burrito, Hunny & Bunny and Taverns + Tots.

Sept. 21-24: Art exhibit
If you haven’t yet seen “Space Between Ticks,” a two-artist exhibition that delves into the juxtaposition of childhood dreams and the realities of adulthood, don’t delay. It is open through Sunday at Rose and Eugene Presents, 701 N. Phillips Ave. Marc Wagner and Les Cotton are two visionary artists who explore the boundaries of visual storytelling. Wagner’s latest comic book release, “Content Rot,” comes to life through hand-painted panels. Cotton’s mixed media panels present a compelling narrative that speaks to the human condition with honesty.

Sept. 23: Sock the Block
Let’s Skate, Total Drag and The Breaks Coffee Roasting Co., along with Headlights Theater, will host a block party for a good cause Saturday. Bring along heaps of socks that will be donated to the Veterans Affairs hospital and veterans outreach. The party starts at 1 p.m. with open skate in the 300 block of East 12th Street. It will include a skateboard pop-up shop, burgers, one-day-only event T-shirts, music at Total Drag and the Headlights Theater featuring Companyon and dancers starting at 8 p.m.

Sept. 23: Autumn at The Empire
Come and celebrate the arrival of autumn at Autumn at The Empire from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Indulge in shopping for this season’s must-have fall items, while pampering yourself with free snacks, refreshing beverages and enjoyable family activities. The first 100 children will receive a special gift box.

Sept. 24: Laughter in the Park
The Sioux Falls Laughter Club will host Laughter Yoga in the Park at 1 p.m. Sunday. Gather at McKennan Park near the sunken garden, and be prepared for a good chuckle or two or dozens.

Upcoming: Dental clinic
At-risk youths can receive free dental care Saturday, Oct. 7. Sioux Empire Smiles is a free, one-day children’s dental clinic at the Children’s Dental Center, 3813 S. Kiwanis Circle. The clinic will be open from 7 to 11 a.m. Early arrival is encouraged because children will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis. The goal is to provide free services to 100 children. A parent or legal guardian must be present. The clinic is open to those 21 and younger who need dental care or who may not have seen a dentist in several years. Local dentists and their staff will donate their time and services to provide dental screenings and treatments. Sioux Empire Smiles is a program of the Southeastern District Dental Society with support from the South Dakota Dental Association. Support and funding are made available through Sioux Empire United Way, Professional Insurors, South Dakota Dental Foundation, Delta Dental of South Dakota Foundation, Children’s Dental Center and Patterson Dental.
