Nov. 13: Exhibit reception

July 4, 2026, marks the 250th anniversary, or semiquincentennial, of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. For a first look at the Siouxland Heritage Museums’ newest exhibit, which examines at the many ways people have celebrated these past anniversaries, visit the Old Courthouse Museum for a reception from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Admission to “Parades, Picnics, and Pageants: South Dakota Celebrates” is free. Refreshments will be served, sponsored by the Siouxland Heritage Museums Alliance.

Nov. 14-15: Refresh Your Closet

The Fall Refresh Your Closet Sale will be Friday and Saturday at EmBe, 300 W. 11th St. It will offer brand-name women’s clothing, shoes, bags, jewelry and more, with 100 percent of the proceeds supporting women’s programming at EmBe. Hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday for the bag sale. For information, click here.

Nov. 14: An evening with butterflies

Every so often, the Butterfly House & Aquarium, 4320 S. Oxbow Ave., stays open a little later. This Friday, it will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., you can make a shadow box. The activity is included with the regular admission price. You can get your tickets here.

Nov. 15: Santa and toys

Elegant Mommy and Casetta Event Space, in partnership with The Foster Network, are hosting Santa’s Workshop & Toy Drive from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at 207 W. 37th St. It’s a day of giving, crafting and holiday fun with the family while making a difference for local children in need. Salt & Light Studios will take children’s photos with Santa. Admission is a new, unwrapped toy with a minimum value of $10 for The Foster Network or a $10 donation per family. You can sign up here.

Nov. 15: Book fair

Siouxland Libraries will host its second annual Author Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Saturday at the Downtown Library, 200 N. Dakota Ave. More than 20 local authors and seven panelists will participate. The schedule will be: book fair with local authors, 10 to 11 a.m.; food and nutrition writing panel with Sanaa Abourezk, Sandrine Pilaz and Zeke & Nate Bake from 11 a.m. to noon; genre writing panel with Arley Fadness, Emersyn Park, Jon Runyan, Randy Faustino and CK Van Dam from 1 to 2 p.m.; and a book fair with local authors from 2 to 3 p.m.  The Author Fair is free, but registration is required.

Nov. 16: Woodwinds concert

The High Plains Woodwinds, under the direction of Paul Schilf, will perform its Commissions Concert at 2 p.m. Sunday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3801 E. 26th St. It will feature pieces written over the past 10 years especially for High Plains Woodwinds, with a reception to follow. Admission is a freewill donation.

Nov. 19: Group hike

The Great Outdoor Store and Great Bear Ski Valley will host a Headlamp Group Hike at Great Bear at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday. Break out your headlamp for a hike that will last about one hour. It’s friendly to all ages and hiking abilities.

Coming up: Green Day’s ‘American Idiot’

The Underground Series is a new program created in partnership between The Premiere Playhouse and Icon Entertainment. The new series will offer Green Day’s “American Idiot” in a dinner-theater experience with the meal at 6 p.m. Nov. 21-22 at DaDa Gastropub followed by a performance at 7 p.m. at Icon Event Hall. Rock opera matinees also are available at 2 p.m. Nov. 22-23. Tickets with or without a meal are available here.
