The week ahead: July 17-23
The Week Ahead is our hand-picked event guide to the next seven days in Sioux Falls and slightly beyond. For guaranteed placement or to promote your event ahead of time, email [email protected] about a featured event listing.
July 18: Summer at the Stockyards
Weather worries meant that the Stockyards Ag Experience rescheduled last week’s afternoon of old-fashioned carnival games, play and photo-ops on the north side of Falls Park at 201 E. Falls Park Drive to 3 to 6 p.m. Friday. Activities include an egg race, duck pond, coloring and plinko. South Dakota Soybean will sponsor mini-doughnuts, and Color Bee Face Painting will be there. Kids will get tickets for each booth, then turn those in for prizes. There also will be a raffle for “big kids,” including Beef Bucks from South Dakota Cattlemen’s, a year of free eggs from Dakota Layers and gift cards to local stores and restaurants. It’s free.

July 18: Adults only
It’s a night for adults only from 9 p.m. to midnight at Thunder Road, 201 N. Kiwanis Ave. Enjoy go-karts, arcade games and mini golf with late-night snacks. Cost is 36 for everything, $29 if you’re staying indoors and $5 for VR bragging rights. Rev It Up Grille will offer bites through midnight.

July 19: Porterchela
Porterchela, a music and art walk, will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Porter Sculpture Park. 25705 451st Ave., south of Montrose. Admission is free; bring a folding chair. There will be more than 60 sculptures, artwork, music, hiking and walking and food trucks. This is a first-time event.

July 19: Blanket volleyball
Get ready for volleyball with a twist. The Social, 301 S. Thompson Ave., is hosting the 6v6 Coed Blanket Volleyball Tournament at 10 a.m. Saturday. Teams will play with a blanket over the net, making every serve a surprise. Register by emailing [email protected].

July 19: Croc wranglin’
We’re talking crocodiles, not Crocs. Sioux Falls Parks & Recreation will offer a chance to wrestle inflatable crocodiles in the water at Laurel Oak Family Aquatic Center, 3401 E. 49th St. The fastest wrangler gets a prize. You can register here. It will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

July 20: Blues revue
Sunday Night Blues, a live blues revue and jam hosted by the Jesse Christen Band, will return to Club David from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Future dates are Aug. 25 and Sept. 28. Cover is $5. Performances from local talent include Reuben Rodriguez on bass, Daniel Heier on drums and Derek Snow on vocals. Musicians can bring their own instruments and sit with the band. There will be barbecue food specials and drink deals throughout the night. Club David is at 214 W. 10th St.

July 22: Stems and Style
Bring outdoor flowers inside — and you do the arranging. 605 Petals & Pines and Seasoned Style will host a Build Your Own Bouquet Workshop at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Seasoned Style’s shop at 824 W. 10th St. You’ll create your own arrangement using locally grown flowers and learn flower arranging in a relaxed setting. Bring a quart-sized jar or vase, or purchase one for $3. Tickets cost $40 and are available here; it includes flowers, shears, flower food and people food and drinks.
