Road Report: Week of Aug. 2

Construction season is here, so we’re giving you a weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.

What’s done

Work in the intersection of 66th Street and Sundowner Avenue is complete.

And — great news for those using Cliff Avenue to avoid Minnesota Avenue — work at 57th Street and Cliff is done.

What’s underway

Work began last week on eastbound 57th Street at the tunnel under I-229 and should be completed this week.

Work began last week on Benson Road between St. Paul and Potsdam avenues and should be completed this week.

One major project underway is on 49th Street from Arway Drive to Carnegie Circle.

It’s a full reconstruction, so it includes:

• New water main.
• Sanitary sewer repairs.
• New storm drainage piping, including a 12-foot-wide-by-5-foot-tall box culvert to convey stormwater.
• New concrete pavement.
• New sidewalk, including a 10-foot-wide side path on the south side of the street.
• Street lighting.

Traffic on 49th is reduced to one lane in each direction.

The intersection of 49th and Oxbow Avenue is currently open to traffic but will see periodic closures on Oxbow as work progresses. Racket Drive is closed at 49th.

The project started in early April and is taking longer than expected, but it still will be done this fall.

What’s next

Concrete repair work starts today on 26th Street between Western and West avenues. Work should be done in about two weeks.

Concrete repair work began Friday on northbound Sycamore Avenue between 23rd and 26th streets. Work should be done in about one week.

Manhole work began Friday on northbound Southeastern Avenue between 33rd and 49th streets. Work should be done in about one week.

Manhole work begins today on Holbrook Avenue at Bluestem Street. Traffic will be maintained, but lanes will be narrowed and shifted around the work zone. Work should be done in about one week.

Sewer repair work begins today on northbound West Avenue just north of Sixth Street. This work should be done in a couple of weeks.
