Construction season is winding down. Here’s our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next as long as the weather holds.

What’s done

Western Avenue: Western Avenue reopened to traffic from 95th Street to Lincoln County Highway 106, also known as 271st Street, on Oct. 9.

This segment of Western was reconstructed as part of the South Veterans Parkway construction project.

Work on Western included grading, underground utility installation, curb and gutter, asphalt and concrete surfacing, street lighting, traffic signals and installation of a roundabout at the intersection with 95th Street.

Sycamore Avenue: All work was completed on Sycamore Avenue between Sixth Street and Arrowhead Parkway on Oct. 10.

All lanes are now open to traffic.

Work included full-depth concrete patching, partial depth concrete patching, curb and gutter repairs, sidewalk accessible ramp replacement, diamond grinding of the finished pavement to provide a smooth and uniform driving surface, and new pavement striping.

What’s underway

10th Street: Work on 10th Street between West and Menlo avenues is nearing completion.

The first phase of work on 10th Street, which was between West and Euclid avenues, was completed earlier this summer.

In the second phase, from Euclid to Menlo avenues, underground utility and concrete work is complete, and asphalt paving is in progress. Tenth Street will be reopening to traffic later this month.

This project also includes work on Covell Avenue between 10th and 11th streets and on Menlo Avenue between Ninth and 10th streets.

41st Street: The outside westbound lane on 41st Street closed between Fairhall and Holbrook avenues Oct. 10 to allow crews to perform concrete repairs. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.

What’s next

49th Street: Beginning today, the outside westbound lane and the outside eastbound lane on 49th Street will be closed at the Big Sioux River bridge to allow crews to perform sidewalk repairs. This work is expected to be complete in one to two days.

14th Street: Beginning Tuesday, the outside westbound lane of 14th Street will be closed between First and Fifth avenues to allow crews to perform sidewalk improvements. This work is expected to be complete in about three weeks.

22nd Street: Beginning Tuesday, the eastbound lane of 22nd Street will be closed between Williams and Garfield avenues to allow crews to perform sidewalk improvements. Traffic will be shifted in order to maintain one lane of traffic in each direction. This work is expected to be complete in about two weeks.

26th Street: Beginning Tuesday, the eastbound lane of 26th Street will be closed between Duluth and Spring avenues to allow crews to perform sidewalk improvements. Eastbound traffic will be shifted to the center turn lane. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.

41st Street: Beginning Wednesday, the outside eastbound lane on 41st Street will be closed just west of the Big Sioux River Bridge to allow crews to work on the sanitary sewer. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.

Westport Avenue: Beginning Wednesday, Westport Avenue will be closed from 41st to 43rd streets to allow crews to work on the sanitary sewer. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.

I-229: Beginning Wednesday, an evening closure is scheduled at the Interstate 229 and Benson Road interchange to allow crews to set a sign on the bridge. Northbound I-229 will be closed from approximately 7 to 10 p.m.  During the closure, northbound I-229 traffic will be detoured at the Rice Street and I-229 interchange to Rice Street, Cliff Avenue and onto Interstate 90. Benson Road will remain open from Cliff Avenue to I-229.
