Montgomery’s sees surge of interest in residential, commercial flooring options

The designers at Montgomery’s were issued a challenge: Each was given the same bathroom floor plan and tasked with creating a custom look for it.
“It could be based on their personal taste or something they saw that was cool, and they picked every finish,” flooring manager Olivia Niggeling said.
“From the tile to the counters, the carpet, the direction and pattern of the tile in the shower, the grout color, lighting, mirrors, faucets and cabinet pulls.”
Here’s a look at some of the designs:

The exercise highlights a huge advantage Montgomery’s offers customers: the chance for nearly unlimited customization with the complimentary services of a designer.
And, increasingly, those services include flooring.
“We’ve been offering flooring for much our century-plus history, but over the last few years, it’s really ramped up,” Niggeling said. “We’ve grown in the products we offer and have added to the team itself.”
Montgomery’s offers flooring for homes and businesses, from hard surfaces such as tile, solid and engineered hard wood, luxury vinyl plank and laminate, to a range of options for carpet.
“One of the biggest misconceptions is still that people don’t realize how much flooring Montgomery’s offers,” Niggeling said. “Not only is it something we can do, but we can fit any budget and integrate it into your project so that the style of flooring complements the rest of your finishes and furniture.”

On the residential side, “we’re continually working on new builds and home renovations, whether it’s taking carpet out of a master suite or a whole entire remodel,” she said.
“A lot of times, we’re doing flooring in kitchens and bathrooms, where people spend a lot of time and want it to be a beautiful space. It’s amazing what improving flooring can do to a space, even allowing you to keep your existing cabinetry and counters while giving the room an updated look.”
Flooring material such as tile also can be used throughout the home.

“We’re working on one house where there’s tile on the back of lockers in a mudroom that give it a cool mosaic look,” Niggeling said. “And we continually see it in kitchen backsplashes or accent walls in bedrooms.”
Everything from micro-mosaic “intricate and beautiful” tile to large-format tile for a contemporary look on fireplaces is popular, she added.
“We can create the look of high-end quartz or marble on a fireplace using tile,” Niggeling said. “One of the newest products we’re using is called book match tile, so it’s like a book opening with a great pattern on it, and it’s absolutely stunning.”
While many homeowners are gravitating to hard surfaces in flooring, carpet is still popular for staircases and bedrooms.

“The shift in carpet is that it’s not always as plush but more compact, so the height is closer to that of a hard surface,” Niggeling said. “And just like hard surface, it wears extremely well, so we’re seeing more of a shorter nap in people’s houses.”
Bonus: Montgomery’s also offers an on-site project manager to oversee your installation and has a service to move your furniture back and forth for you if you’re installing any floor covering. The team also will put your home back in order, including trim, before the job is complete.
“Service is key,” Niggeling said. “We will do what it takes to make sure everyone is on the same page and you’re happy with the project.”
The same standard applies to commercial projects, which have been a significant growth area in Montgomery’s flooring.

“We can be a big help to contractors as well as clients,” Niggeling said. “We’re able to offer the highest quality commercial goods out there, and we can do anything from a small office with a few employees up to large multifamily projects, while ensuring that you stay on budget.”

Montgomery’s has provided flooring for schools, offices and many apartment communities in recent years.

“We might do giant commercial and residential jobs, but we’re also changing out a master bedroom or putting luxury vinyl plank in a basement bathroom, and we genuinely care about the quality of your project,” Niggeling said.
“We take on projects of every single size, and we always approach it like it’s our own home or business. We’re locally owned and operated, and we know we’re here to deliver for the customer, and we do that time and time again.”
