Road Report: Oct. 6, 2025
Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.
What’s done
14th Street: The accessible curb ramp repairs along 14th Street between Minnesota and Second avenues downtown wrapped up last week.

41st Street: The project to add a westbound left turn lane from 41st Street/County Highway 148 into the Sioux Falls Regional Landfill is now substantially complete, and 41st Street/County Highway 148 is open to traffic. Crews will be finishing up the striping and sign installation over the next week or so.

What’s underway
Arrowhead Parkway: The contractor on Arrowhead Parkway east of Veterans Parkway has been making good progress over the past few weeks.

Concrete pavement is starting to be placed, storm drainage work is in progress, and work continues on the pedestrian underpasses across Veterans Parkway.

Arrowhead east of Veterans is anticipated to remain closed until late November.

Arrowhead will reopen to one lane of traffic in each direction for the winter before closing again in the spring of 2026 to complete the remainder of the project.

South Veterans Parkway: The contractor on South Veterans Parkway between Cliff and Sycamore avenues also is making good progress.

Grading work is almost complete along the entire corridor.

Storm drainage work is in progress, gravel has begun to be placed, and the bridge girders, or beams, will start to be placed over the railroad tracks east of Cliff Avenue this week.

Work on this segment of South Veterans Parkway is expected to be complete in late 2026.

What’s next
I-90: Beginning today, lane closures will be in place on Interstate 90 between Marion Road and Interstate 29 to allow crews to perform pavement repairs. This work is expected to be complete in a few weeks.
Ditch Road: Beginning today, Ditch Road will be closed between 60th Street North and 72nd Street North to allow crews to install a water main. Motorists should utilize 60th Street North, Cliff Avenue and 72nd Street North as an alternate route. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
13th & Phillips: Beginning today, the sidewalk on the north side of the intersection of 13th Street and Phillips Avenue will be closed to allow crews to perform accessible curb ramp repairs. Pedestrians will be detoured around the work zone. The vehicle parking lane adjacent to the work zone also will be closed to traffic. This work is expected to be complete in about two weeks.
11th Street, Phillips Avenue: Beginning at 8 a.m. today, intermittent lane closures will be set up on 11th Street between Main and Phillips avenues and on Phillips between 10th and 12th streets. Individual lane closures are planned to be in place for approximately two to three hours each. Upgraded colored pavement markings will be installed to replace the existing white stop bars at the intersection of 11th and Phillips. The new markings are being installed as part of a Creative Intersections Project funded through the city’s neighborhood association grant program on behalf of the Downtown Neighborhood Association. This work is expected to be complete by the end of the day.
12th & Phillips: Beginning on Tuesday, portions of the sidewalk and passenger drop-off area on the east side of the intersection of 12th Street and Phillips Avenue will be closed to allow crews to perform curb repairs. Pedestrians will be detoured around the work zone. This work is expected to be complete in a few days.
41st Street: Beginning on Tuesday, lane closures will be in place on the 41st Street bridge over the Big Sioux River to allow crews to perform bridge maintenance work. The lane closures will alternate to complete the work, but traffic will be maintained in both directions at all times. This work is expected to be complete in about two weeks.
Western Avenue: Beginning on Tuesday, the northbound lane of Western Avenue will be shifted toward the center of the street between 26th and 28th streets to allow crews to perform utility work. One lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained through the work zone. No parking will be allowed in the work zone. This work is expected to be complete in about two days.
