Sept. 28-29: Jacobs concert

Ryan T. Jacobs of Pulp Western will be live at JJ’s Bar on Thursday and Friday. Jacobs brings a range of classic covers and original music on his way to forging a music career in Nashville. His concerts will run from 7 to 10 p.m. at 3000 W. 57th St., hosted by JJ’s Wine, Spirits & Cigars.

Sept. 29: Outdoor concert

As part of its homecoming celebration, the University of Sioux Falls music department will offer a free instrumental music concert in the plaza between Jeschke Fine Arts Center and Salsbury Science Center at 3:45 p.m. Friday. Sept. 29-30, Oct. 1: SiouxperCon

SiouxperCon 2023 offers three days of fun and excitement at the Sioux Falls Convention Center and Arena, but something extra special for kids will take place on Siouxper Family Fun Day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Every child 10 and younger will receive a free book, “Sort of Super: The Magma Cup,” by Eric Gapstur, thanks to a grant from the South Dakota Humanities Council, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. More than 1,000 copies will be distributed during the eighth annual comic and fandom event. For a full schedule of events, click here.

Oct. 1: Lefse-making

Always wanted to learn how to make lefse? Want to learn how to make lefse, and do it for a good cause? Register with Hope Lutheran Church for its lefse-making workday. The event will begin at 1:30 p.m. Sunday; you can sign up by calling the church office at 605-332-2531. The lefse made that day will be sold at the Hope Lutheran Bazaar.

Oct. 3: Art Academy

The Carl Grupp Arts Academy is a nine-week program for high school students at all ability levels to pursue their passion for the arts. With a studio-based approach, students will gain new skills in drawing, painting and printmaking while making connections to other artists and the art community as a whole. Sessions will begin Tuesday from 6 to 7:45 p.m. and continue Oct. 10, 17, 24; Nov. 7, 14, 21, 28; and Dec. 5 at the Washington Pavilion. You can enroll here.

Oct. 4: Midweek Meander

You have one last chance to take part in the Falls Area Bicyclists’ Midweek Meander, so mark your calendar now for Wednesday. You’ll meet at 6 p.m. at Harmodon Park for a 20-mile ride at 10 miles per hour. It will include some road riding. Any bike is appropriate, and you can meet other riders at your level. Wear a helmet, and bring along one or two water bottles.
