June 22: Up in the air

A kids’ introduction to aerial silks, for children age 8 and older, will run from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday at South Dakota Aerial & Arts, 1200 E. Third St. Coaches prioritize safety in the small-group classes, making sure all kids have limited distractions and their own apparatus. Classes start at $22 per class with a multi-class pass. June 24: Prairie in the city

People passionate about urban ecology will enjoy a free workshop led by Boyd McPeek of Sioux Falls. The topic: How to transition a small area or entire lawn into a micro-prairie in the heart of a city. Gather by the micro-prairie at 10:45 a.m. Saturday on the south side of BronzeAge sculpture foundry, 1110 N. Weber Ave. McPeek is a supporter of the BAM Institute of Civic Biodesign.

June 24: Dairy farm tour

What’s better than ice cream on a summer day? Learning where it comes from! Stensland Family Farms near Larchwood, Iowa, is hosting Family Farm Day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Self-guided tours of the farm at 1664 Ashley Ave. cost $5 per person with age 2 and younger free. There will be inflatables, kids activities, ice cream and cheese sampling and Farm Store specials. KLK Concessions and Rooted Plant + Coffee Shop will be on the grounds.

June 24: Football playoffs

The Sioux Falls Snow Leopards, South Dakota’s first professional women’s football team, will compete in Round 1 of the Women’s Football Association playoffs at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Harrisburg High School football field. The team’s competition: the Zydeco Spice of Lafayette, Louisiana.

June 24-25: Zippity Zoo Day, Sensory Sunday

June 25: Live music

You know guitarist Geoff Gunderson from performing for more than three decades in and around Sioux Falls with groups such as rock band Wakefield and Juke Box Zeroes. From 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, you can hear him live at Crave American Kitchen & Sushi Bar, 201 E. Eighth St.

June 29: Mocktails Mix-Off

Health Connect of South Dakota is hosting a Summer Mocktails Mix-Off on Thursday at the Startup Sioux Falls building, 100 E. Sixth St. The Summer Community Sobriety Event is part of Health Connect’s efforts to increase the public’s awareness of celebration options. It showcases tasty mocktails that don’t use alcohol. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three winners, and a People’s Choice winner also will be selected. To be an event contestant, go to mocktailsmixoff.com, and register your entry today. Admission is free, and doors open at 5 p.m. Sampling of entries and voting is from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Winners will be announced at 7:15 p.m.

July 29-30: Air show

It’s not too soon to mark this on your calendar. The Sioux Falls Airshow Power on the Prairie featuring the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds will return July 29 and 30 at Joe Foss Field, 1701 S. Minnesota Ave. Admission is free. Other performers include the South Dakota Air National Guard, the F-16 Vipers, Kent Pietsch Airshows, Melissa Burns, Skip Stewart Airshows and the U.S. Marine Corps MV-22 Osprey demonstration team.
