Feb. 8: River film festival
The annual Big Sioux Film Festival is a night full of educational films, meaningful conversations and hope for the future of the Big Sioux River. It will run from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the State Theatre in downtown Sioux Falls. The event will begin with a cocktail hour, complete with hors d’oeuvres from Morrie’s Steakhouse, local brews and a silent auction. Three river-related short films will be shown, and the Friends of the Big Sioux River board will speak on the work FBSR is doing to improve the cleanliness of the Big Sioux. This event is a fundraiser for Friends of the Big Sioux River. To purchase tickets click here.

Feb. 9: Cocktail tour
Sioux Falls Food Tours pits cocktail against cocktail, and this month the Bloody Mary will have its tour. The tour will run from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday. It will begin with a light appetizer, then you visit three bars to try their version of the drink. Each drink is then rated. You must be 21 or older to take part. The beverages are included in the $85 price. You can get your tickets here.

Feb. 10: Perfume making
Interested in creating your signature scent? Sign up for a one-hour perfume-making workshop at Lupulin Brewing, 2425 S. Shirley Ave. This Galentine’s Day event will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday. The perfumes are made with all-natural, safe ingredients, plus you’ll learn about the why and how of essential oils. Cost is$25. You can get your tickets here.

Feb. 11: Digital art
Unlock your creative potential with the Procreate Crash Course led by artist, illustrator and award-winning designer Les Cotton. This hands-on workshop begins at 1 p.m. Sunday at Rose + Eugene Presents, 701 N. Phillips Ave., Suite 135. It is designed for those 16 and older who are eager to delve into the world of digital art using the Procreate app. You must have a tablet with the Procreate app preinstalled and a compatible tablet pencil. Participants will learn fundamental skills, color mastery, tool exploration, and gestures and shortcuts. Cost is $30. You can register here.

Coming up: Feb. 15
The Curious Music Collective will present “Love Lifted Us” at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 15 in the Washington Pavilion’s Everist Gallery. This performance will celebrate Black history and beyond with spoken word, song and dance, and take participants on a self-searching discovery. It’s part of the Pavilion’s Live & Local series and the chamber-music collective’s Uplifting Voices Series. Purchase your tickets here.
