Road Report: Week of July 26
Construction season is here, so we’re giving you a weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.
What’s done
Marion Road closed to southbound traffic between 41st and 57th streets on Thursday for milling and paving the west side of the road. Marion opened to traffic in both directions the following day.
Work began on 26th Street west of Veterans Parkway last week and is expected to be complete early this week.
Work on Kiwanis Avenue between 12th and 26th streets should wrap up this week. Work is temporarily complete on Kiwanis between 33rd and 41st streets, but work will resume in this segment in about two weeks. Work continues on Kiwanis between 26th and 33rd streets.
What’s underway
Bridge maintenance work is occurring this year on 57th Street between Cliff and Southeastern avenues, 69th Street between Cliff and Southeastern, and on Summit Avenue between 14th and 15th streets.

This entails performing routine maintenance that helps extend the service life of the bridge.

Work on these bridges varies depending on the needs at each location, but generally consists of:
- Railing repairs.
- Guardrail repairs.
- Surface repairs.
- Sidewalk repairs.
- Epoxy deck seal.
The epoxy deck seal helps seal cracks in the surface to prevent water, salt, dirt, etc. from penetrating into the bridge deck. Keeping these things out of the bridge deck will help lengthen the service life of the bridge.

Work on the 57th Street bridge is in progress. Work here is expected to be complete in approximately two weeks.

Work on the 69th Street bridge will begin in approximately three weeks. Work is expected to be complete in mid-September.
Work on the Summit Avenue bridge is in progress. Work is expected to be complete this week.
What’s next
Work began at 12th Street and Minnesota Avenue late last week. The northbound left turn lane on Minnesota will be closed at 12th. Left turns from 12th onto northbound Minnesota also will be restricted. Work should be complete by early this week.
The intersection of 66th Street and Sundowner Avenue closed last week to allow crews to install new water main through the intersection. Work is expected to be complete in approximately two weeks.
Work begins at 57th Street and Cliff Avenue today. The outside eastbound lane of 57th and the outside northbound lane of Cliff will be closed to allow crews to perform concrete repairs on the southeast corner of the intersection. Work should be complete in approximately one week.
