Road Report: Sept. 16, 2024
Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.
What’s underway
Sycamore Avenue: Crews started diamond-grinding operations on Sycamore Avenue between Sixth and 10th streets last week.

Diamond grinding is a process that evens out the street surface to provide a smoother ride for vehicles.

After the diamond grinding is complete early this week, crews will work to clean out the concrete joints, add a protective sealer and reseal the joints.

The work on Sycamore Avenue is expected to be complete in about four to five weeks.

The adjacent work on Sixth Street just west of Sycamore Avenue is expected to be complete in one to two weeks.
10th Street: Work is nearing completion on 10th Street between Interstate 229 and Sycamore Avenue!

Crews finished the asphalt overlay in the middle three lanes Friday.

Pavement striping will take place early this week before opening all lanes to traffic later this week.

However, there will be periodic lane closures in place as crews finish up remaining work along the corridor.

Fourth Avenue: The outside northbound lane on Fourth Avenue closed at Presentation Street on Sept. 11 to allow crews to perform concrete repairs. This work should be complete later this week.
18th Street: The parking lanes on both sides of 18th Street closed, and traffic was shifted to the north side of 18th Street between Minnesota and Dakota avenues Sept. 11 to allow crews to work on a gas line. This work should be complete later this week.
Veterans Parkway recreation trail: The recreation trail along the east side of Veterans Parkway closed between 41st and 57th streets Sept. 12 to allow crews to install a sanitary sewer force main pipe. This work is expected to be complete in six to eight weeks.
There will be a second phase of sanitary sewer force main pipe installation, which will require a closure of the Veterans Parkway trail between 26th and 41st streets for six to eight weeks in late 2024 or spring of 2025.
15th Street: Sanitary sewer repairs began at various locations along 15th Street between Grange and Glendale avenues Sept. 12. There will be intermittent short-term lane restrictions, short-term road closures, driveway access restrictions and street parking restrictions as the work progresses. This work is expected to be complete in about two weeks.
What’s next
57th Street: Beginning today, lane closures will be in place on 57th Street between Tennis Lane and Louise Avenue to allow crews to overlay the street. The location of the lane closures will vary as the work progresses, but at least one lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained at all times. This work is expected to be complete in about two weeks.
Foss Avenue: Beginning today, Foss Avenue will be closed from just south of Walmart to 18th Street to allow crews to work on underground utilities. This work is expected to be complete in about two weeks.
