Road Report: June 2, 2025

Construction season is here, so we’re back with our weekly look at what projects are done, where you’ll find traffic impacts and what’s scheduled next.

What’s done

Sixth Street: All lanes on Sixth Street between Foss Avenue and Veterans Parkway opened to traffic on May 30.

The new traffic signal at Sixth and Veterans also became operational last week.

Intermittent lane closures on Sixth Street may occur over the next few weeks as the contractor addresses final cleanup items. Drivers are urged to use caution as they adjust to the new traffic pattern.

What’s underway

Arrowhead Parkway: Work continues on Arrowhead Parkway east of Veterans Parkway.

Crews currently are installing storm drainage pipes and structures and very deep sanitary sewer. They’re also performing grading work.

More than 300,000 cubic yards of dirt are being excavated for this project.

This is enough dirt to fill up almost 100 Olympic-sized swimming pools!

The underground utility work and grading work currently in progress will continue for the next several weeks.

Arrowhead Parkway will remain closed east of Veterans Parkway until late fall.

What’s next

 41st Street: Beginning today, the outside eastbound lane closure currently in place on 41st Street between Westport Avenue and Sheldon Lane will be extended east to Western Avenue to allow crews to complete sidewalk improvements. This is the fourth of eight phases of the project, which includes sidewalk improvements on both sides of 41st from Western to Westport avenues, and on Minnesota Avenue from 11th to 18th streets. The entire project is anticipated to be completed in August.

85th & Heritage/Ellis: Beginning today, the roundabout at 85th Street and Heritage Parkway/Ellis Road will be closed to allow crews to finish asphalt paving at the roundabout. Access will be to local residents only. During this closure, Madison Street, Thompson Avenue and 85th Street will be used as a detour route. The roundabout is expected to reopen to traffic in about one week.

Northview Avenue: Beginning today, Northview Avenue will be closed between Benson Road and 54th Street North to allow crews to install underground utilities. Northview  traffic will be detoured to Westport Avenue. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.

La Mesa Drive: Beginning today, La Mesa Drive will be closed between Madison and Third streets to allow crews to install underground utilities. La Mesa traffic will be detoured to Marion Road. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.

Main Avenue: Beginning on Tuesday, Main Avenue will be closed between 11th and 12th streets to allow crews to work on an adjacent building. This work is expected to be complete in about one week.
