There’s the Emmys, the ESPYs and now The EMBEs — A Tribute to Women.

EmBe’s longstanding Tribute to Women awards have a new name and some new ways to honor women and those who empower them.

After last year’s 50th anniversary celebration, “as we met with community members and internally discussed the event, we decided to create not just a new logo but evolve the name to reflect how it really is an award show,” said Rachel Fiegen, donor engagement and events coordinator.

“It’s still a crucial fundraiser for our EmBe annual fund, but now we’re highlighting it in a way we think is super-exciting, and it’s been fun to see the community reaction to the new name.”

The EMBES — A Tribute to Women will still offer nine categories for nominations, but those have evolved as well. New categories include Community & Public Service, Outstanding Educator and Performing & Visual Arts.

“These are new ways to highlight work being done in our community that definitely reflect the mission of EmBe as well,” Fiegen said. “We’re hoping to broaden awareness of who can be nominated and attract even more nominations than the 71 we had last year.”

Here’s a complete list of the categories:

Banking & Finance – This award recognizes women for their remarkable achievements in the banking and finance sectors. It honors their dedication to fostering positive change, enhancing financial literacy and making vital contributions to the growth and success of these industries.

Business Achievement – A woman who demonstrates extraordinary leadership, innovation and success across various business sectors, including sales, marketing, professional trades and entrepreneurship. Recipients are industry pioneers who have left a significant mark, leading with vision, creativity and a relentless pursuit of excellence.

Community & Public Service – This award honors women for their significant contributions to public service and community involvement. Individuals are acknowledged for their dedication to civic engagement, leadership in public service initiatives and generosity of time and talent to create impactful change within their communities.

EmBeliever Award – A man, woman or business recognized for embodying the mission of EmBe by empowering children, women and families through opportunities that uplift and enhance their potential.

Healthcare & STEM – A woman recognized for her excellence in the fields of healthcare and STEM. This award highlights their commitment to pushing the boundaries in their disciplines and advancing the well-being of individuals and communities through their groundbreaking work.

Outstanding Educator – Any woman who is celebrated for her exceptional skill, dedication and influence across all levels of education, from early childhood to higher education. This award honors those who showcase innovative teaching methods, demonstrate unwavering commitment to student success and significantly impact the educational community and the lives of learners.

Performing & Visual Arts – This award acknowledges women who have made outstanding achievements in the performing and visual arts. It celebrates the individual’s dedication to advancing the arts, enriching cultural experiences and inspiring audiences with their artistic vision and performances.

Sylvia Henkin Mentoring Award – This award recognizes an individual’s commitment to mentoring women in their personal and professional lives. Eligible women have actively mentored for five or more years and are older than 40, demonstrating a long-standing dedication to supporting and guiding others.

Young Woman of Achievement – A woman age 21 to 39 recognized for exemplifying leadership and professional success. Recipients are honored for their ability to drive positive change and their potential for continued excellence in their careers and community contributions. The award acknowledges her current successes and her capacity to inspire and lead future progress.

The deadline to nominate is midnight Aug. 29. Click here to learn more.

“It is so important that your nomination be well thought out and showcase both the personal and professional side of the nominee,” Fiegen said. “And in every category, we’re looking at community impact because serving our community is so important to EmBe.”

This year’s The EMBES — A Tribute to Women will be Oct. 10 at the Washington Pavilion, with some changes to the format that also reflect community feedback.

A social will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., with the show beginning at 7 p.m. and a cash bar available until 9 p.m.

“And we are trying hard to keep the program right at an hour, and then after, we will have a cash bar available, so everyone can congregate and congratulate the winners,” Fiegen said. “So we’re excited about those changes too.”
