Emergency 911 service is down across South Dakota, according to local law enforcement.

In a news release, the city of Sioux Falls said:

“Metro Communications is unable to receive 911 calls in Minnehaha County and Sioux Falls at this time. Please call 605-367-7000 or text 911 in case of an emergency. People should not call 911 as a test.”

In an updated statement, the city said “911 call outages appear to have impacted additional cities and counties across the United States this evening. The cause of the outages is currently unknown, and there is not an estimated time for restoration.”

The Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Department posted on social media that the 911 system is not currently operational. Residents are asked to call 605-367-7000 for any fire, ambulance or law enforcement needs in Minnehaha County.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department posted that 911 service is down statewide. Residents in Lincoln County are asked to call 605-764-5651 for emergency assistance.

Other law enforcement agencies, including Rapid City, are reporting the same outage.

According to the Turner County Sheriff’s Department: “Technicians are aware of it and are currently working to resolve the issue. There is no estimated time when 911 services will be restored.”

Other areas of the country reporting outages so far include Las Vegas and parts of Nebraska.
