Nov. 10: Book launch

An anthology that contains unique first-person and historical stories of Sioux Falls has its official book launch at 5 p.m. Thursday at Zandbroz Variety, 209 S. Phillips Ave. Editors Patrick Hicks and Jon Lauck and the contributors will be there to autograph copies and answer questions. You can learn more about the book here.

Nov. 11-13: Mums the word

Homestead Orchard at 44890 279th St. near Marion is hosting a free chrysanthemum show. Visitors can stroll through the greenhouse to see more than 80 varieties of mums. The show runs 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Free coffee and the chance to sample apples will be offered after the tours.

Nov. 11-12: A Kingswood Christmas

Think the Kingswood neighborhood is only about the annual rummage sale? Nope — they’ll take care of Christmas shopping for you too. From 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, shop refinished furniture, home decor, vintage treasures, holiday gifts, candles, holiday decor and more. Click here for details on locations.

Nov. 12: Free day at the Pavilion

To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Lloyd Cos. is covering everyone’s admission to the Washington Pavilion from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, including the Kirby Science Discovery Center, Visual Arts Center and Wells Fargo CineDome.

Nov. 12: Downtown RC soccer battle

Put your remote-control car skills to the test! Soccer pitches will be set up throughout the Downtown Plaza for you and your friends and family to enjoy friendly competition. The temporary plaza is next to the parking ramp on 10th Street, one block east of Phillips Avenue. The battle runs from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Register here.

Nov. 12: Explore the Pettigrew

A Nooks & Crannies Tour of the Pettigrew Home and Museum, 131 N. Duluth Ave., will begin at 1o a.m. Saturday. Go behind the scenes, and discover things you won’t see on an ordinary tour. Cost is $5. Register at 605-267-7097.

Nov. 12: Open mic night

Full Circle Book Co-op hosts an open mic night the second Saturday of each month. This month, it falls on this Saturday and runs from 8 to 11 p.m. This open mic features music, poetry, comedy, prose, dramatic readings, theater pieces, interpretive dance and anything else participants choose to do.

Nov. 13: Make a diorama

Teenagers in grades six through 12 can convert a scene from their favorite books — or something else they enjoy — into a diorama for their bookshelves. The hour of crafting will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday in Meeting Room B at the Siouxland Libraries’ Ronning Branch. Preregistration is required.

Nov. 13: Yellowstone viewing party

Calling all fans of the series “Yellowstone”: Roundhouse Brew Pub is holding a watch party for the season premier at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at 1515 E. 69th St.

Nov. 15: Second Tuesday speaker

Artist Erin Castle will speak at Rehfeld’s Art & Framing as part of its Second Tuesday series. Her topic will be “What a Gallery Looks Like and Making the Connection.” The free event is 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Rehfeld’s, 431 N. Phillips Ave.

Nov. 15 and beyond: Wee Play & Learn Parent-Child Workshop

Parents and primary caregivers are invited to come with their children to play, meet other families and talk one-on-one with child development experts at this workshop for those with children age 1 to 3.

The free five-week workshop will be held at the Downtown Library, 200 N. Dakota Ave. It meets Wednesdays from 10 to 11:15 a.m. Nov. 15, 22 and 29, Dec. 6 and 13.

Children will learn about their world and develop the skills needed to be successful learners through self-led play, supported by their closest adults. Registration is required at siouxlandlib.org or 605-367-8700; attendance at all five weeks is strongly encouraged. Siblings up to age 6 are welcome with a registered child.
