Oct. 30: Painting with cats

It’s a Child and Me event at The Cattitude Cafe, 225 E. 11th St. Enjoy an hour of painting right alongside the cats. This event is for children 12 and younger accompanied by an adult. All supplies are provided, and staff will lead the events. Cost is $30. Make a reservation here. It will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Oct. 30: Ember Exchange

The fire will be metaphorical, but you can make a real connection at this community gathering at 6 p.m. Thursday at Good NAtured, 921 E. Eighth St. It will feature community members offering a skill, story or lesson they’ve picked up along the way. You can share or simply listen. It’s free.

Oct. 30-Nov. 1: Halloween fun

Looking for some spooky fun? Here are some options for you:

  • Grandma Lu’s Hallow, 913 W. 36th St., will be open from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Follow the signs at 37th Street and Minnesota Avenue. Travel through the witches coven and claim a prize, take a selfie in a haunted glow-in-the-dark shed and giant cauldron. A children’s Halloween story will be read every half-hour.
  • The Terror 29 Trail of Terror will be open three nights this week at Camp Leif Ericson. Hours are 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday and 7 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. General admission costs $20; purchase your tickets here. The event includes uneven terrain, strobe lights, fog and intense scares — sturdy footwear recommended.
  • The party starts at 8:30 p.m. Friday at Ken’s Korner, 918 W. Sixth St. Misty Cans & The Horny Toads will debut their album at 8:30 p.m., followed by D Parfait to keep the party going.
  • The official Halloween Bar Crawl runs both Friday and Saturday and features creepy cocktails. There will be no cover charges at any of the bars or the mid-party and after-party, plus professional photographers on Friday. Check-in is between 4 and 6 p.m. at Rough Cut Social, 119 W. 10th St. Get your tickets or information here.
  • It’s a two-day party at Blarney Stone Pub, 333 S. Phillips Ave., beginning at 11 a.m. Friday and ending at midnight Saturday — minus when the bar is closed overnight! There will be drink specials and themed cocktails.
  • The Big Lost Blair Witch Haunted House, hosted by Big Lost Meadery & Brewery and Ranch & Roost, will open at 7 p.m. Friday at 2215 S. Lorraine Place. There will be drink specials, frightening times and some nostalgia. It’s not recommended for folks younger than 16.
  • DJ Dontai will spin today’s hits, and there will be drink specials, giveaways and a costume contest at Bin 201, 201 E. 11th St., from 8 p.m. to midnight Friday.
