May 8: Children’s workshop

Stones Coffee and Play, 27294 Kenworth Place, west of Harrisburg, will offer art and play from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. The event will let kids design their own sun-developed cyanotype print, then let them play while it develops. Cost is $20 per child, and $15 for each additional sibling. Registration will close Thursday; send a text to 605-400-4332.

May 9: Something for moms

Celebrate moms — all women really — at Nordic Hall, 218 W. 13th St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday with small businesses offering a variety of activities, shopping and tastings. There will be a complimentary mimosa bar, and offerings will include chair massages, arts and crafts, baked goods, personalized attire, information on hair health, custom-fit jewelry and custom press-on nails. The event will be conducted in open-house style, no appointments necessary.

May 9: Second Saturday

The Second Saturday Market will return from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday behind Remedy Brewing Co. at the 8th & Railroad, 401 E. Eighth St. Expect to see more than 30 local vendors, food trucks, live music and other activities. This is an all-ages, pet-friendly event.

May 9: Punk in the Dakotas

Five punk bands from South Dakota and North Dakota will perform at Punk in the Dakotas, beginning at 9 p.m. Saturday at The Den, 909 N. West Ave. Bands include Carrion Crawlers from Pine Ridge; The Sovereign, Fort Thompson; Baltic to Boardwalk and Pass the Flask, both from Fargo, and Sioux Falls’ Planetary Reset. There is no cover charge, but the show is for those 21 and older.

May 12: Free movie

SDPB and Look’s Marketplace will present a free screening of “The Grocery List Show” at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Look’s, 500 E. 69th St. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. The show is a cooking documentary series that explores cultural grocery stores. It is hosted by former “Top Chef” contender Chrissy Camba.

Upcoming: May 19 and May 26: Bird watching

Tweens can learn about the migratory birds that return in the spring in an event from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Family Park. Jr. Birders is open to kids age 10 to 13. There is no charge, but preregistration is required. There are two other events coming up: May 19 at Terrace Park Japanese Gardens and May 26 at Lloyd Landing.
