March 16-17: St. Patrick’s Day
Experience the luck of the Irish when the traditional painting of the shamrock takes place at 11 a.m. Saturday in front of The First National Bank in Sioux Falls, 100 S. Phillips Ave. Phillips Avenue will be closed at 10:45 a.m. between Ninth and 10th streets. The annual parade takes off from Phillips and 13th Street at 2 p.m. and ends near Fifth Street. Streets adjacent to the route are closed at 1:30 p.m., and parking is not allowed on Phillips starting late Saturday morning. Buttons to march in the parade are available in advance at The Cookie Jar Eatery and 605 Running Co. or the day of the parade. Here are other St. Patrick’s Day-themed festivities:
- The El Riad Fife & Drum Corps will host a St. Patrick’s Day bash at 11 a.m. Saturday at 510 S. Phillips Ave. Come join the O’ Fife and Drum for its 20th annual event, which includes food, live music and beer pong. There’s no cover and no minimum.
- Lucky’s Bar, 224 S. Phillips Ave., is hosting what it calls an epic St. Patrick’s Day party beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday. It promises green beer, fun shots and memories to last a lifetime. There’s no cover charge, but you must be 21 to attend.
- Blarney Stone Pub, 333 S. Phillips Ave., is hosting a two-day St. Paddy’s Day Party beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday. - Remedy Brewing Co., 401 E. Eighth St., will start its St. Patrick’s Day party at 11 a.m. Saturday. Green Bee, made with Worker Bee, will be available for a limited time, and Liam the Headstrong, an Irish red ale, returns. The Saucy Boyz will make traditional Irish food.
- Altered Species Ale, 2101 W. 41st St., will host a St. Patrick’s Day celebration beginning at noon Saturday.
- Monks Ale House, 420 E. Eighth St., promises to help you celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in a way that would make your Irish ancestors proud: enjoying the bold sounds of the brass band The Brass Holes and indulging in fine brew. The music will run from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday.
- A weekend bash starts at 7 p.m. Friday at Shenanigans Sports Bar and Grill, 1903 S. Ellis Road. Green eggs and ham will be served from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, and bands will perform all weekend. Cover charge will start at $10 per day, with $20 for a full weekend entry. Ticket bands can be purchased now.
- McNally’s Irish Pub still has a few tickets for the Jameson Bus that transports people from the pub at 6211 S. Old Village Place to downtown for the parade and back. The $25 ticket also gets you a T-shirt, a drink for the road and festive swag. The pub opens at 8 a.m. for breakfast Saturday and Sunday, and there’s live Irish music at different times both days.
